i got my tattoo on saturday
and left the bandage on and then took it off to clean it up.
i put it back on saturday night and i was wondering if putting it on again for tonight is bad for it...
i just put on vitamin A & D cream and want to make sure that gauze over it won't do anything. if it matters its on my hip.

I was told to keep my gauze on for 12 hours, then take it off. In a place where it would have a lot of friction from clothing (such as your hip) I would keep the gauze on longer to protect your tat because you don't want your clothing to scrape off the scabs. I would think it is very responsible to cover it at night. My tat was in the middle of my back, and I kept my gauze on during the day, and took it off at night, and it looks great.

I would keep it covered for the first 24 hours, and then after that, remove the gauze and put on some A&D ointment and make sure nothing rubs against the tattoo. With it being on your hip, try to sleep on your back or belly for the first few days until it scabs over, but make sure to keep applying ointment when needed. And do not pick at the scabs. Keep them moisturized with the A&D. As it heals, it will become softer and softer, leaving you with a perfectly nice tattoo. Good Luck!

NO!!! You do not want the bandage on it. it will get infected that way.

for the 1st 5 days use bacitracin to insure no infections set in. 1st wash it with antibacterial soap using your clean fingertips. then use a paper towel to pat dry. do not wipe or rub. use a thin layer of bacitracin. do that 3 times a day. after 5 days use lubiderm or cetaphil or any good moisterizer free of perfumes, colors etc etc. Always use a very very thin layer of lotion. do not go on thick with it. your tattoo needs air to heal. no sun or baths or swimming , lakes etc etc for 30 days. limit showers to 10 minutes or less and do not let the water hit your tattoo directly. after the tattoo heals always use spf 45.

no covering it period. no prolonged direct sunlight. NO SWIMMING FOR 2 WEEKS. chlorine=BAD. other then that just keep doing what your doing now till its completely heald. but use absolutely no anti bacterial type soap or lotion. your new tat is a healing wound, now i know this sounds funny but if you use either of those it will have adverse affects to a healing tattoo. i hope this helps.

don't cover it. it is a wound and needs air to breathe. if you keep it covered, it won't scab over, and therefore won't heal. just make sure you goop it up real good before bed so the sheets don't stick to it.

you should not continue covering it at night. you just need to wear regular sleeping clothes and keep putting whatever your artist told you to apply to it while it is healing.

no point in covering it really. it needs to breath. but its very important not to let it dry out. apply and rub in a paw paw cream, Vaseline or light anti bacterial cream when ever it starts to dry out. and when it starts to crack dont scratch it. just let it heal and in ten days or so it should be fine.

I keep mine covered while I sleep because it seems it rubs more. I've never had any problems with bleeding ink or anything.
