loss of elasticity and collagen in our skin makes it sag. After the age of 16 we lose collagen every year. collagen and elastin are fibers in our skin that keep it firm and tight and when it decreases our skin becomes wrinkled! Sun rays, sugar and smoking are a few examples of things that contribute to the loss of these fibers.

Well, as you grow older, your body produces less collagen. Collagen is a substance produced by the body that helps keep skin flexible, elastic, kind of like the glue that keeps your skin in place. There are alot of factors that speed up the destruction of the collagen you have already have--the sun being number one in a big way--and once it is gone the collagen can be replaced by the body but eventually, with age, the body can't keep up producing more. Therefore, the skin starts to sag because the "glue " keeping it in place is gone. You can slow down the aging process of wrinkling by keeping skin well moisturized--keeping it elastic, flexible---but you can't stop it. Without the collagen, the skin becomes thinner and dries out more quickly and loses it's shape, and well, droops from the bone. Also, no matter what it says on that expensive jar of ,well, basically moisturizer , you cannot put collagen back into the skin without a needle and injections and even with injections, it is a temporary fix, as the injected collagen is absorbed into the body as waste over a period of time--usually months, depending on where the injection was. Now they have different injectable "skin plumpers" such as Restalin {sp? sorry} but they are all temporary. A face lift will stretch the skin until it is tighter over the bone, but over the years, even with lots of moisturizing and avoiding the sun, the skin will eventually sag again as it has no collagen to keep it in place. What you can do now is 1) Stay out of the sun or else wear sun screen with an SPF of at least 30, whenever you are out in the sun, even if you are wearing a hat. Cover your arms and legs as well or make sure you're using sunscreen on them as well. Skin cancer cases are on the rise and usually the sun damage doesn't show up until you are older. Sun burns are not harmless and suntans from baking in the sun could kill you years from now.
2) Drink lots of water even more than the usual recommended 6 eight ounce glasses a day. Skin needs to stay hydrated--plumps up the collagen. Your body, much like the earth, is mostly water.
3) Watch your diet. What you put in your body will show on the outside, No alcohol would be great but if not possible, then drink minimally Alcohol dehydrates your body and all of it's organs, including skin, which is the largest organ of your body.
4)No Smoking !!! repetitive movements of your facial muscle will lay down the groundwork for the placement of wrinkles. Look at the lines around the mouth of someone who is or has been a heavy smoker.
5) Moisurize your skin every time you wash it. Right afterwards is the best because as your skin is still slightly wet, the moisturizer helps seal in the water. Even if your face is oily or combination, you need to moisturize it. There are some great moisturizers for oily or combo skin--water-based and oil-free moisturizers are good. There are some cool moisturizers that actually work on their own so they moisturize more in dry areas and less in oily areas.
I guess I should quit now. Sorry, didn't mean to write a book !
Take care of your skin now, even if you are young, because you may not see the damage happening right now, but you will in a few years and once the damage is done, it's done for good. You can camoflage the damage with make-up, but it's there .
Take Care and Good Wishes to all !

Our skin wrinkles when we get old is because we make the same face expression hundreds of times. So that makes our skin a little looser than it is.

The collagen as we age, gets looser and our muscle also loose their elasticity.

The aging process makes our skin start to droop hence the sagging arm meat on old people, this is normal but can be aided by a good diet and proper exercise throughout one's lifetime.

The responders who highlight the loss of collagen and elastins are accurate. Your genes, sun damage, smoking and diet can effect how quickly you lose the elastic effect of your skin. There are treatments out there that have been proven to stimulate your bodies ability to produce more collagen.

No offense, but no. It does not surround the expressions of your face, but comes down to your collagen.
