Yes there is. The normal ski season generally finishes around July, although there is still snow in october. My sister lives in Thredbo, and if they have a really busy snow season, they also make their own snow if it doesnt have enough natural. I have been there in December when there is still snow on top of the mountain, not enough for skiing but a month before there would have been. Also, if there is no snow, it is also a great place in drier months as they have many mountain-biking tracks and plenty to do. It is a must see destination, absolutely beautiful! I would recommend it to anyone, any time of the year!

This depends on the season, but in October there will almost certainly be large areas of snow at the top of the hill. Chairlifts run to get tourists up there. I have seen skiable snow at the top in January, but that was after an exceptionally good season. In some years there are isolated drifts that last through to the next ski season.
