Yes it is possible. I hope that it is YOUR debit card and not somebody else's. I never do it online unless it is a life or death matter. I don't trust internet security enough with my business check card. Yahoo voice and wallmart.com are the only two places I have ever used mine online.

Usually a Debit card is EVEN EASIER than a Credit Card online.

But a Credit Card is more preferable than a Debit Card because it gives you ONE MORE LAYER of Protection in case you don't get the item you paid for. This is because you can dispute the money you paid with a Credit Card with your bank whereas if you pay by Debit Card and you're ripped off you're pretty much stuck

If your debit card has a credit card symbol (MasterCard or Visa are the most common), it should be accepted wherever those credit cards are accepted - including online vendors.
