I have sensitive eyes and the alcohol in eyeglass cleaner seems to linger on my glasses and creates some type of reaction that really iritates my eyes. I've tried Bausch & Lomb Sightsavers and Flents ... both were irritating. I'm contemplating trying a contact lens solution as an eyeglass cleaner. Any suggestions?

If you are having problems with prepared eyeglass cleaning solutions, the best thing for cleaning glasses is simply soap and water. You can use a dish washing type liquid soap that cuts oils. Just hold your eyeglasses under the faucet long enough to get the lens surfaces wet. Then take a small amount of soap and rub the front and back surfaces of the lenses between your thumb and other fingers. Then just rinse it off. Make sure and dry the lenses with a cotton type towel the consistency of a baby diaper. Best to just use a cotton baby diaper.

Eyeglass Cleaner Solution

Hey.. glad I read your question! I work for a major sunglass retailer and I can say (because sunglasses and glasses are made of the same material)- no, do not use this solution on your glasses. it can seriously ruin the coatings used to protect the glass/polycarbonate lens and can eat away at your lenses since they are made of a different material than your contact lenses. I highly suggest getting regular glass cleaning solution and diluting it. A lot of people i've talked to put the lens cleaning solution into a bigger bottle, add more water until you can barely smell the alcohol, and use it that way. It should help the irritation and keep your glasses clean.
If that doesn't work, I would suggest keeping a microfiber glass-cleaning cloth nearby and using that without any solution-- use your breath to create fog on the lens and use that to clean the glasses, but do NOT wipe your glasses with anything made from paper (toilet paper or paper towels) because they contain woodships that scratch the lenses, and do NOT use your tee shirt because it has body oils and dirt on it that will grind into the lens material and weaken its durability. Hope this helps!!!!

I agree with Yagmans answer but let me add to it.
You don't want to use any soap that has citrus in it, the citric acid can cause coating on the lens to break down.
I have found that the regular blue Dawn liquid dish soap to be by far the best.(use a little drop and warm water, get the lenses wet first and lightly rub the lenses, dry them with a soft cloth, you don't want to use any type of paper product, like napkin, paper towel or facial tissue.)
