because no future is definate. personally, i don't believe in such mystics, but if a person really could see into the future, then something can be done to avert that particular future
therefore, a psychic, as i see it, would only be able to see a *possible* future
that said, if a lottery has 3 numbers on it, the psychic would be able to see any of one thousand futures, since there are 1,000 combinations of three numbers
since any of those thousand futures might turn out to be the real one, the particular future the psychic saw could be a different one, one that didn't happen to be

For the same reason they ask you for your credit card # if you call their 900 number. If they were that damn good, they wouldn't HAVE TO ASK.
