What is it you concider long hair and how long is your hair now? Normal rate of growth is around 1/2 inch a month for most people.... Hair seems to grow faster in the warmer months because of the humitiy :O) For starter's don't cut !!!! Salons want you to have your have trimed often because they want your money.... Hair grows from the roots and not the ends... If you don't have split ends then your hair doesn't need a trim.... Longer you can go between trims the longer your hair will get.... The more you trim the shorter your hair is going to get :o( Patience is Key !!!! No heat is a major part also.... That means no hair dryers, curling irons or products of any kind..... They are bad for your hair and only damage what hair you do have :o( As for split ends.... If you do have them trim only right about where is needed or do a dusting.... One of best ways to reduce split ends and breakage of your hair so it can grow long is let your hair air dry and then comb out.... DON'T brush while your hair is wet.... Hair is like elastic and when wet is more prone to streching out and breaking.... Try to avoid brushing so much.... Use a wide tooth comb.... Massaging your head will help stimulate your growth also.... Anywhooo.... Good luck :O) Just a warning though.... There is NO fast way to grow hair long.... It takes time and patientce.... O and again NO PRODUCTS they will only hurt your hair in the long term.... I use Redken Clear Moisture shampoo and conditioner and love it.... Again Good Luck....

As everyone has probably previously informed you, hair growth occurs at a rate of 1/4 -1/2 inch per month. However, there are several things you can do to increase your hair growth rate. First, examine your diet, lifestyle, or hair products. These all may be stunting hair growth. Eliminate alcohol, stress, and junk food. Up your water intake, take Amino Acids, and buy an all-natural hair growth stimulating product. If you do this, your hair will grow faster, and more importantly, healthier than ever.
I suggest you buy a high quality hair growth product that is all-natural. Find a hair growth product that contains hair growth stimulating essential oils such as Rosemary and Sage, natural herbs, and vitamin rich nutrients your hair needs to grow. Make sure you stray away from all natural products that use natural extracts. Extracts are not as powerful as essentials oils. Also, look at every product’s ingredients. Most products available in drugstores and retail stores contain phosphates, sodium lauryl sulfate, petroleum, mineral oil, and other lab created humectants that damage your hair. Also, stay away from hormone or chemical based hair growth stimulants if at all possible. These will all damage your hair.
The best product that meets all of these standards, and has proven results, is Beauty 4 Ashes Super Hair Growth Shampoo and Conditioner. I recommend it to all of my hair loss clients. The products contain over 10 hair growth stimulating nutrients, and no artificial ingredients. Compared to other hair growth products, including Rogaine, Minoxidil, Nioxin, and Propecia, it costs a lot less and works just as fast, if not better. Further, it is all natural. You can find it easily at wwwdiscoverb4acom.
Remember to eat a lot of protein, especially fish for essential fatty acids. If you are a vegetarian, eat lots of legumes and beans. Drink 8-10 glasses of water and take B vitamins.
Good luck!

Unfortunately the best way to let your hair grow is what you already know, good diet, lots of water, etc. Getting your hair trimmed every 8-12 weeks will not make it grow faster, but it can help it grow longer. You must get the split ends off or they will acted like a frayed rope and continue to split up the shaft until eventually you will get breakage. Fine hair especially because it is more fragile.

Tips I learned from magazines:
When you shower, massage your scalp while shampooing. That will help with the blood circulation, which will in turn help it grow faster.
Keep your hair healthy. Brush it every morning and night, wash it every other day (not every day because then your hair might get too deprived of its natural oils, causing it to dry out), and use good shampoo and conditioner.

Research has confirmed the role of zinc has a vital nutrient in the healthy growth of hair. Zinc is an important element in the management of stress when it is mobilized in stress as it is an important constituent of many vital enzymes required for normal body functions.

A lot of it depends on your health. You have to make sure you're properly hydrated and that your diet isn't lacking in nutrients. Also every 6 weeks, it pays to get your split ends trimmed off.
