I was in a lot of pain this week with my cavity and my lower wisdom teeth. When I went to my dentist and he told me that I have early Periodontal disease and 2 more cavities on top of it. He quoted me at $4200 for all of the work to be done, including filling the 3 cavities and the root scaling and planing (3 visits). He said it didn't include oral surgery or the endo. I know my back teeth are in rough shape due to having Bulimia for a number of years. But does $4200 sound right? He didn't give me anything for the pain, what OTC items would be best?
I know a lot of the cost can probably be chalked up to the fact that I don't have insurance, as I just moved here. I left my job and moved back home to care for my father who just had a stroke. So at the moment, getting a job is out of the question. I was trying to see if Maine has a low-cost clinic, but is it going to give me good care? Does anyone have any suggestions?

MATERIAL,
IF THE DENTIST PLANS TO DO ROOT CANALS AND CROWNS AND POST WITH BUILD UPS AND ROOT PLANING THEN AFTER ALL THE TOTALS ARE ADDED UP THIS IS NOT OUT OF THE ORDINARY FOR A PRIVATE DENTIST.
THE BEST THING FOR THE PAIN THAT'S OTC IS IBUPROFEN (ADVIL). TAKING 4 (FOUR) 200mg TABLETS EVERY 4-6 HOURS IS EQUIVALENT TO TAKING 1 MOTRIN 800mg TABLET.
FOR THE MOST AFFORDABLE DENTISTRY WITH EXCELLENT RESULTS ARE FOUND IN DENTAL SCHOOLS. GOOD LUCK.

I'm not a dentist. But my husband had the same problem. Periodontal disease, 3 sessions of cleaning, plus 2 cavities. It came out to a little over $5500 in California. This included the scaling and planing, antibacterial that they put between his teeth ($70), two oral rinses ($45 each), numbing during the rinses and the actual cleaning. He also had bone loss which resulted in $1600 per tooth. It was expensive and we had insurnance too but it was not very good at all. After the second session, his breath became fresher and he was more confident, he's never felt better. Another option, we use to go to dental colleges. You'll may have to look them up in the phone book and give them a call, depending on your area, esp big cities, it's pretty hard doing it over the internet. When we were younger, my mom use to drive us down there, sit and wait, sometimes for up to half a day until they took us in. But it offered low or no cost dental care. Good luck!

Periodontal disease treatment is expensive. Here fillings run 300 per tooth. Check with another dentist who will give you a free estimate, explain that you are uninsured.

Dentists here give a 10% break to seniors and people who have no insurance.

The best dental clinics are associated with large universities that train dentists. You can also check with social services in Maine. Since you became unemployed to be a full time caretaker for your dad, there might be a program to help you.

how many teeth are we talking about here? if it's 3 teeth with the 3 cavities and assuming you are going to do the root canal treatment for all of them plus putting on crowns, you will need about that much money.
