When i went to get my tattoo i had a sunburn. I didnt know anything about it other than, i wanted one. I specifically asked the man, "Will having a sunburn affect the tattoo? Will it create any problems?"
And he said, " It shouldnt, no." He was obveously a moron or didnt care and just wanted to be paid, but now im more worried about the tattoo itself.
It bubbled over and is incredibly dry so i kept putting lotion. But then it bubbled up even more. Like blisters.
Its also verry swollen, like the skin is raised. it looks rather 3D.
Im very worried about it. what should i do? is this normal? should it be so sensitive and raised? What should i do to take care of it now.
and if anyone knows, is it illeagal to give a tattoo when the person is sunburned?

Just to let you know having a sunburn WILL affect the outcome of your tattoo, when i first wanted to get mine, they wouldnt do it cuz i was burned...and the skin is more sensitive and more prone to getting infected or fading...You definatley should have waited it out and had some kinda patience..the only thing you CAN do is go to another shop and get another opinion on what is going on and what you can do about it(bubbling & peeling)..i suggest for future tats, let the burn go away first...i know it sucks but its best...hope i helped some...PS..DONT POP THE BLISTERS!!!!!

Okay,
1. It is not illegal in Illiniois, Missouri, or Indiana to give a tattoo when the person is sumburned, but it was irresponsible for the artist to ignore the fact that your skin was inflamed. I would look into the statues in your state regarding tattooing. Also, asking another tattoo artist in the area may help, it's like getting a second oppinion.
2. My tattoo bubbled up and blistered and scabbed over also, and I didn't have a sunburn. It was raised and almost 3D and dry like you said, and it felt like a huge road rash. I just put petroleum jelly on it every day, four times a day. It looks fine now.
3. The tattoo is too deep to really be effected by a normal sunburn. A sunburn usually only effects the epidermis or top layers of skin, and the tattoo is in the dermis, or the layer just below that. It is put so deep in the skin because otherwise the epidermis would eventually shed out the ink, thus making the tattoo not permanent.
I hope this helped you, I sunburn very easily, I'm a ginger girl - aka. a pale, blue-eyed, freckled, red-head.

you should have known better than to get a tattoo while you were sunburned. your artist should have known better as well but if you had to ask then it seems like you knew, you just WANTED to hear another answer.
you may need to seek medical attention because your skin was already severely damaged by a burn and then you went and added an open wound on top of it. your body is working hard to keep up with all of the damage you have done to it in such a short period of time. if i had to guess i would say that your tattoo will not heal very well.

I dont think its illegal it may be. But there is a certain type of cream you can put on it to help the man shouldve given you it after you got the tattoo. You can find it at CVS pharmacy just ask for a cream to put on a tattoo and they will tell you the best ones. Does that help any?

You shouldn't have gotten a tattoo with a sunburn. You might have problems with the ink taking.

i don't think you should have gotten it done. and i am surprised he did it for you! i don't know if its illegal but its immoral in my book since he is suppose to be a professional and he took advantage of you. did he give you any instructions? try the a&d ointment. its perfect on tattoos and it'll help your skin heal. also, stop by the pharmacy. if you can, show then the tattoo and ask what they would do. they might know of something else and they'll be able to tell you if you should see a doctor or whatever else.

Well, I'm sure it hurt really bad that should have been a sign. Not only should the tatoo artist known not to do that but you should have too! It doesn't sound like a good situation to me, Why not just wait and be on the safe side?

I have to agree with somebody. she knows. yes he was a moron but you DID know you should not get a tat over a sunburn. go to a doctor right away. the sooner you can address this issue the sooner you can get it healing and salvage the best you can your tattoo.
good luck.
