I know enough about computers to get me out of trouble if i need it (if something messes up) but with the actual names and brands i really dont know how to compare them. So i am aksing if you could give me the pros and cons to AMD and Intel (if those are even in the same ball park, if they arent i need the comparison to a pentium 4 and AMD) Thanks.

AMD and Intel are both brands that release several different processors.
the AMD sempron is comparable to the intel celeron processor. however the celeron does run at a faster speed.
the pentium 4 runs faster than both and is comparable to AMD 64 processor. these two are closer in speed but computer geeks tend to go for the AMD 64 because it's 64 bit.
however if you're purchasing a new computer and are planing on running vista you should get a dual core processor like one from intel's Core 2 series or from AMD's turion 64.
Be aware that these are both lines of processors. both sets of processors have numbers that corresponds to their speeds. Both brands offer processors that are comparable to each other.

sempron is a budget amd, p4 is not budget . overall i am an AMD guy but i hear now that the intells have an upper hand on power the dual and quad cores are crazy powerfull . amd has a better price still though . i would stay away from semprons celrons and other budget cpus.

I dont know all the details but, AMD is supposed to be way better than IntelPentium. But then in a way as you said, they are sortain the same ball park.
