You have a duty to your insurance company (contractual) to report the loss immediately. There is no "law" in CA regarding how long you have to report the accident to your insurance company. It's the insuring agreement you have with your company that you need to follow - if you wait too long, there will be more questions as to the validity of the claim and why you waited so long to report it.
As for it being less than a week - you should probably go ahead and report it now. The delay isn't THAT that long, but you should be more cautious than not.

The longer you wait, the more questionable the claim becomes.
An adjuster will look at the damage, and may not recommend payment if the damage is old.
