Any of those shotguns will fit the bill in doing what you have in mind, so it's mainly whether you prefer a pump vs. an autoloader. The autoloader will give you less felt recoil, but if you shoot reduce load shells it might not cycle reliably.
Out of the 3, my first choice would be the 11-87, followed by the Wingmaster and then the1100.

My first shotgun was an 870 12 gauge and it has been a great gun. I did find some used 870 wingmasters for around $200 to $260 but some come with extra barrels and they did look in real good shape for used guns. For an auto I got a Remington SP-10 10 gauge it was an xmas gift shoots great and nice goose gun. but for smaller birds I would think that the 870 wingmaster and a 11-87 12 gauge would work well. I would think that the 11-87 12 gauge 3 1/2 may be around your $750 range but that would depend on who you deal with too.

Depends on whether you want a pump gun or an autoloader. Most folks I meet seem to swear by one or the other. 1100 and 1187 are both autos and will run you about $700. But you could get a heck of a nice 870 in the $500 range. I suppose I'm too biased to answer the question; I've never met a Remington I didn't like!

My first Remington Shotgun was the 1100 with 30" barrel and in 1988 I got my second one a 11-87 with the 28" barrel. I don't use the 1100 much but that 11-87 is SWEET!
Though it sounds like your a Remington person but if you decide on a pump, take a look a Browning's BPS, I have 3 of them in my collection, 10ga.w/30", 12ga. w/28" and 20ga. w/22". The unique this about the Browning BPS shotguns is they load and eject from the bottom of the receiver.
Good luck.

I have a 780 Express too, but who doesnt really, its either that or the Mossberg 500. A frined has a wingmaster and an 11-87 and they are both great guns, and the 11-87 was a little better, id go for it.

Remington 870 is a good all around gun and at a decent price. You really can't go wrong. You can get it in synthetic or wood stock. In my state you can get the wood stock with 2 barrels for $400.
Skeet, grouse, pheasant, geese....... you can do it all.

If you're going to shoot skeet, I'd recommend against any pump gun. There are certainly folks who can shoot the doubles fast enough with a pump, but it only takes a minor hangup to make it not fast enough.
There are some very nice double guns in your price range too. Mossberg Silver Reserve and Remington Spartan GunWorks both have 28" 12G Over and Under guns in your range, I own one of each and find them to be fabulous guns for the price.

As the proud owner of one myself, I would definitely choose the 870. I have it in a 20 gauge and it is probably my favorite gun of all. I shoot skeets with it and i have a hit percentage of over 98% with it. It is a great shotgun.
