Fat burners are excellent, period!!! They do exactly what they claim to do - oxidise fat and use it as energy. They are highly effective at doing this. The best ones to use must be/contain the following ingredients:
- L-carnitine/carnitine/acetyl-carnitine
- Green Tea extract/just plain green tea
- Citrus aurantium
- Selenium and Iodine ( these are needed for better health of
your metabolism
Of course, you would be taking a multi-vitamin and mineral, plus eating a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, meats, dairy, wholegrains, healthy oils(essential fatty acids are essential for fat oxidation) - not too much though, obviously
And drink plenty of water, especially if you are exercising a lot, and taking green tea as well - green tea is a diuretic

Eat more protein- enough for your body weight.
It will increase your metabolic rate, allowing you to burn more body fat than a low protein diet, without as large a decrease in your daily caloric intake, which will also help avoid the "starvation" mode
