LOL. So much for the vaunted Liberal toleration! So I take it that's a one-way street? How convenient.
And you call yourselves progressive!

To begin, one cannot be denied their religion when the Constitution supports freedom of religion, press, speech, asembly, etc. I am a Christian. That is what I believe. How can that be taken away from inside me?
You tend to focus on only the negative aspects of organized religion. How about the positive? How about th Christian response to Hurrican Katrina?

Once a person's heart opens or softens, then they can see the real God. People and governments, have done the greatest harm. When we choose to follow our own selfish desires, mankind suffers. Those who seek the love, grace and mercy of our LORD Jesus Christ, will find true peace and love for thy neighbors.

Religion is tolerated because I think the majority of people still have some kind of religion whether it be Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Wicca, etc.

Because as history has shown, when you ban religion, people revolt.
That was one of the main reasons why people flocked to the US colonies - freedom from religious persecution.
Also, we pride ourselves on being 'free'. That includes acceptance of religion.
Religion has as many good aspects as it does bad.

To put it simply, if we deny them the right to believe what they want, we are no better than them. So we put up with it and hope they will eventually evolve...
Heaven's messenger: That makes no sense what-so-ever. Just ask the chrisitian community...

Are you suggesting that everyone in the US become Christian drones who drink and have sex behind each others' backs so everyone else will think they're a good little puppet? No thanks. I like my freedom of religion. If you don't, then move out.
