Ok well me and my best friend just joined a local gym... I am about 25 pounds over weight and i want to know, do i need to lose this weight before i start lifting and weight training or should i just let it slowly wear off?
I would also like to know any recomendations on how to get cut... i don't want to be a 280 pound body builder but i would like to be defined.
So any information on certain muscle groups, protein powders / shakes, and just any recomendations would be great.

No, you should start lifting right away. Here's how it works...

As you gain muscle, your resting metabolic rate (RMR) is increased, so you burn more calories throughout the day. Also, when you are building muscle, calories are used during the recovery process to repair and gain muscle, so you are burning calories 24 hours a day, even during rest.

As you build muscle, your bodyfat levels should simultaneously decrease. Just be sure your diet is healthy and your daily caloric intake is sufficient to allow for muscle building. This applies to losing extra bodyfat or becoming cut. For now, you should just focus on reducing bodyfat.

It's fine to do cardio, but if you do cardio and weights on the same day, you should do weights first. This will allow muscle energy to be used for the lifting and won't be expended by the cardio workout.

For now, focus on perfecting good form of the lifts before going really heavy. If you can, get a personal trainer, or at the very least find someone with experience to show you proper and safe lifting techniques.

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

Get started today!

First let me explain the portion ...........A portion is about the size of your fist. Now, here's what you do. get a portion of protein from lean meats or fish........a portion of complex carbohydrates which is best from fruit and a portion of vegetables. that would be a meal. drink a full glass of water with each meal and do this every two and a half to three hours. drink water in between meals. take a multivitamin. work out with weights on monday wed and friday. do cardio on tues thurs and sat. get plenty of rest. rest is vital because that's when your muscles grow. if you do cardio in the morning on an empty stomache......you can burn fat up to three hundred percent more than if you did it after you've had a meal. wait for an hour after cardio until you eat. studies have shown that you will still be burning fat for up to an hour after cardio on an empty stomache. I personally build muscle in the winter and get cut in the summer. so , i really look like a slob in the winter. but, if you do it the way that i had mentioned above........you will gain some muscle and you will get totally ripped in around three months. my sister use a program similar to what i just mentioned and she looks like a different person. you can check out their website. they have a contest going on to see who can make the best progress. it's free and you can win cash and prizes plus, they have a phone number on the contact us part of the site which is toll free and you can talk to a professional about any questions that you have. the main thing is to find a program and stay committed. you will get results. good luck to you!!!

Best Way To Get Cut

I suppose your logic is right. However if you cut out that 100 calories you would work off on the eliptical and not work out you wouldn't be getting the muscle toning. Muscle toning is important because that is what keeps your skin from staying flabby after you've lost the weight. To loose weight, ideally you should both cut calories AND exercise, even if it is only for like 10 minutes a day. An extra 10 min is not hard to find (usually)

When we want to get rid of body fat, there is no way to specifically burn fat from one part of the body. Doing situps won't burn the fat that is covering your abs and doing tricep extensions won't get rid of the fat that is covering your triceps. The only thing you can do is lose weight all around and eventually the problem area will also improve. The way to burn fat is through a calorie restricted diet in conjunction with an exercise routine that will burn calories. Activities that burn calories include running, biking, swimming and other high intensity activities.

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, weight training, protein shake or bar after weight training.
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried - no junk food.
