Like muslims like to recite things in arabic. Even before posting something on this site, they have to type something out in arabic. They have to say their prayers in arabic. They take on arabic names. Most muslims aren't arabs, in fact arabs make up only 15% of the world's muslims. So why is islam so Arab-centric?

Apparently, there are nuances in Arabic that don't translate well into other languages. So translations would not be accurate enough for them.

arabic is the original language for islam. Form the begining everything has been writen in arabic. Arabic is a language created by god! Everything should be arabic is simply to maintain the authentic or orininality of the writen teks. The holy quran for example, has been prevent form being copy or mislead simply by maintaining the arabic language.It is not easy to write and to read arabic. Expert of arabic writing may takes years to actually master it! However do be such whimp about it! The quran has been translated to one universal language which is English, to make it more easier to be understand by non arabic reader! If you can read Arabic, read the english version then. Make sure you read the original translation not the fake one. Well that just another example why arabic language is the center of islam

Because God choose the Arabic language for Islam. It is for all and the Quran is translated into every language. But to get the full meaning you have to at least learn to read it in Arabic there are just somethings that get lost in translation.
I never type anything out in Arabic so i dont know where you get that one from.

Because the Qur'an was revealed in Arabic. In Islam, Arabic is the holy language.

When Christian missions from America go to 3rd world nations and spread the word of God, they teach them the Lord's Prayer in English. I see many pamphlets that are sent to Africa about the Rosary written in English.
To learn the correct, original language of a religion and it's prayers, you should have respect for it and learn it's language. If you convert to Islam, you aren't expected to learn Arabic and only to speak that language for the rest of your life. Only with certain prayers and at certain times. I don't understand why you should have respect for this.

to avoid translation issues like we have in christianity. king james, hebrew, latin, greek, english, spanish, on and on. things get lost in translations. but not in islam, they know if you change a single punctiation mark in the quran. some memorize it so well that they can recite most of it in the same way muhammad recited it all those many centuries ago.
im christian but i can tell you that if our bible had a root language it would be closer to what the author intended than what it is now. latin is not even a 25% of the christian bible... to those christians who take things literally thats a big deal. how can you take a mistranlation literally, somethings dont translate. islam has got some bad press, but you got to hand it to them. christianity may put their faith in god's will to preserve information through translation, but islam does not want to take that chance.

It is because the Qu'ran was written in arabic, and arabic is considered the true language of islam. It is no different than the catholic priests speaking in latin...

brother it seems to me that a vase majority here on R&S are Arabs...that is just a guess...i am Egyptian, Arabic is the mother language of Islam...our Holy Quraan, the only true Quraan is in Arabic, others are translations of, but not the Quraan. sometimes when we post things on here and you see it in arabic, this is for Allah to guide us in what we are about to say...like you might see a brother or sister in Islam say BISMALLAHI ARAHMANI ARAHEEM... before they write anything...this means IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, MOST GRACIOUS, MOST MERCIFUL. because we don't want to tell you anything wrong...or you might see us when we say SLAMO ALAYKO or some form of this...every Islamic culture might say it differents... i do this to brothers and sisters in Islam when i post and answer or question to them...this is our way of saying hi to each other. it means MAY THE PEACE AND BLESSINGS OF ALLAH BE UPON YOU. and when we pray, we are talking to Allah of course so we talk to him in Arabic...those of us who can...the Holy Quraan has it translation in every language so that every culture can know what the Quraan is about...but as i said these are merely translations...the Holy Quraan is in Arabic and has remained unchanged word for word for 1400 years...that is as old as Islam itself
