Hello,
My husband and I are planning a weekend gettaway the end of next month but we're tired of the same places. Las Vegas, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Santa Francisco. Do you have any suggestions? We live in Los Angeles, Ca and would like to drive no more than 2 hours. Thank You

Have you ever been up to Big Bear? Up in the San Bernardino mtns. You can get there in 2-3 hours. Or even Palm Springs. Or, if you'd rather head north, how about Sequoia / Kings canyon national park. That's about the same driving time. Well worth the trip. Or Death Valley is always beautiful this time of the year. Then if you don't mind driving abou 4-5 hours, go to Yosemite. The waterfalls are flowing less that a third of normal, but still beautiful. Go for a scenic drive up highway 49, through all the gold country. Go through all the historic towns there.Whatever you choose to do, hope you have a great time. (If you do go to Yosemite, get gas in Oakhurst, the town just south of the south entrance. Gas in Yosemites only gas station is 4 bucks a gallon.)

Might want to check the timing of the desert bloom in the Anzo Borego (sp?) desert or Johua Tree National Park. We did those trips several times when we lived in San Diego and we absolutely loved them.

Another nice little town is Julian, which is east of San Diego a bit up in the Cuyamaca mountains. It's a late 1800's gold rush town famous for its apple pie/ Lots of great hikes, picnic spots, B&B's, etc.

Two hours probalby won't get you much past Santa Barbara to the north, so you can count out places to the Monterer aquarium, Pebble Beach, but definately try to go there on a different trip.

Also, there's some nice little wine regions between San Diego and LA -- might try to arrange a little SoCal wine tasting tour! =)

My wife and I who live in the San Fernando valley area (just north of L.A.) drove up the 101 freeway and spent the weekend in Solvang, CA. It is only about a 2 hour drive to boot. It's a nice change of pace where it's a relaxed countryside setting. There's a small tourist shop area about 5 square blocks with great eating places along with reasonably priced motels close by. Hope this helps with your travel plans.

I live here on the Central Coast, and thats about four hours from you, but there is some really great places out here. Worth a look see on the internet.
Some romantic places I recommend are, Cambria. Very nice community little town shops, easy walking, great beaches. There is moonstone beach and at night the stones glow like the moon and it very romantic. Also, Santa Maria, there is the historic Santa Maria Inn, Me and my hubby like to go there some weekends. It is a great historic landmark, as well as on friday and saturday nights they have karoke, not like some regular bar either, its classy and nice dining and dancing. Good luck!

Hi!

I know you said IN California, yes.

However, you should seriously consider the 3-day Carnival Cruise on the Carnival Paradise.

It leaves out of Long Beach.

You MAY be able to get yourself a room. It goes to Ensenada, Mexico. NOTHING SPECIAL. The fun part is the SHIP!

Good luck!

BTW: The 4-day cruise is better: it's longer, and it stops at Catalina Island (VERY FUN!)

Have you been to catalina island? I hated the slow boat ride but I heard the fast boat is quite fun. The bay town is quaint and cozy. I've also gone up to Big Bear to do some mountain biking and playing around on the lake.

Good Luck and Have Fun!

a large number of seashores in Brazil... do no longer think of a weekend getaway may be rather actually worth the holiday in spite of the indisputable fact that. Your call! In Brazil you are able to bypass to Buzios, Angra dos Reis, Fernando de Noronha, Trindade e Martim Vaz, Ilhéus... in case you like pictures, google photos is your pal!

well I use to love to go to the redwoods. Get a nice romantic cabin. It is such a beautiful area, but a little longer than 2 hour drive but so worth it
