I am 5-ft tall, and currently weigh 165-175lbs. I was around 120-125. I gained 20-ish pounds when I was on birth control pills to regulate my menstrual cycle (I have PCOS). I stopped taking the pills several months ago, but I continued to gain. I've always been a relatively healthy eater; I never had problem with weight gain (until now). I can feel how unhealthy my body has become; I huff and puff when i walk up the stairs or even just walking a bit faster than my snail pace. The excessive skin are trapping in moisture, which gives me rashes. I am going to be my cousin's bridesmaid next year, so I have a year to slim down. I am considering going on the Medifast 5.1 diet and exercising at 24-Hr Fitness.

Has anyone tried the Medifast 5.1 diet? Did it work for you?

Does anyone have any other recommendation?

Thanks in advance.

drugs are not an answer.

Eat oatmeal, stop all soda and sugars, walk 1hr a day to burn a few thousand calories a week. This will take off weight safely.

The health club is a good idea. Some weight training and cardio will help your heart, lungs, and make you burn calories faster with muscle.

Hi, I used the medifast last year and it was ok but not great. I switched to using a nutritional expert as I needed to lose a lot of weight and wanted to be healthy. He recommended somethings to me and not only helped me lose weight but has gotten me healthier than I have ever been. The diet also included some detoxification which helped me greatly with my weight loss and digestion. if losing some pounds of any description and inches is what you want then I would suggest you use a diet that is all natural and is rich in protein and vitamins, which is what the FDA recommends. I used a protein based diet after a friend who had lost a lot of weight with this recommended it to me. All the way through you feel great and energized, you also get great coaching and support along the way. The people are very friendly and gave me lots of great advice. I needed to lose 40 pounds and I did so with no problems. The products really work and you feel great whilst losing weight. I lost all my weight in less than four months and they have helped me to keep it off. I would definitely recommend using them. My sister did this also and lost 76 pounds in five months (She works out, I don’t). There is no pressure and they will even send you a load of free samples so you can try before you buy. The samples were the thing that initially convinced me that this was the right diet for me. You also a get a free complete health consultation with the samples, I just paid the postage and handling, but for what I got it was well worth it. You just go to www.myhealthabc.com to register your details to get the free samples and the free advice etc and then they just call you up and ask you a few questions. It was so easy. Their main site is www.myhealthabcmall.com and you can see all the products and packages and order from their. Its nice to have contact with real people who care about you losing weight and improving your health. I am in better health now than I have ever been thanks to these products and I know that I will continue to keep the weight off with the help I have received. I hope this helps.

Wow! You are me. Been there. Get yourself three new items and use them religiously. # 1 A diet scale - It is amazing how much off I was estimating amounts. # 2 A good book on calorie counts - I recommend Dr. Phil's. # 3 A simple pedometer - Everyone says to walk and this way you can really know how far you are going each day. I would wear mine all day then try to increase the amount of steps each week. It is an accurate measure of your days normal activities and gives you data to increase. Good luck to you and remember the pounds went on one at a time and will come off the same way. I promise it will work if you decrease calories and increase activity and measure both for accuracy

Well, with PCOS, weight gain is very common. You also probably produce more testosterone than most women, and I bet you'd be great with weightlifting. I have GH deficiency, and that's what I do to keep my weight in check. It causes quite a lot of the same problems PCOS does, but in a different way.

That sounds like a smart idea, doing something that is supervised and good, healthy exercise. I had tried NutriSystem, but with endocrine problems it doesn't work properly. Bypass that and create more active tissue--muscle, that is--by building it.

Since you are working out a 24 Hour Fitness, my question to you is why dont you try working with a personal trainer? They are there to answer your problems. You know you get a free consultation with them so my advice is to observe the trainers there and talk to some of the employees or members and find yourself a good trainer. Sometimes they can really change your life. You talk about your problems here, yet you dont talk about what you have tried or any solution you might have to solving the problem. Right now I am going to break it down to you in four simple parts: exercise, food intake, physical activity, and dedication

I sympathize. I've struggled with weight a lot more since taking steroids for a medical condition.

A much less expensive option to consider is trying the Slimfast Diet. Go to their website and select a plan. The Optima shakes do a lot more to fight hunger than the previous stuff. For now, following a menu is easier to help me get on track.

For the final few pounds and later support, it's hard to beat Weight Watchers. I just couldn't afford them.

I have had great success with ediets. I've been on it for 7 weeks and I've lost 16 lbs. I probably would lose more but I work 12 hr shifts and I really don't have time to exercise. So with just the recipes and tips and support I feel like a new person. Good Luck To You!

I used to eat 3 slices of pizza now one fills me up.I did not get any heart pulp. but I have heard some people do. You also get a dry mouth so lots of water.Talk with your doctor, no heart problems? about 6 months ago my girlfriend and i began eating healthier to become skinnier and more physically fit. in doing so i lost about 1/4 of my body. there are a few things to do...

1. Look up information on Detoxifying your body. Do so for as long as you can. after doing this and eating right it will seem impossible to stop losing weight until you reach a decent weight for you height and body type.

2. try to be near vegetarian, or at least cut out red meat. i stopped eating all meat besides chicken and then slowly weened myself to be vegetarian. (I'm now vegan) Food labels are what it's all about. start by finding the lower calorie ways to eat the things you do now. then you may modify what you eat. don't become obsessive.

3. after you feel comfortable with your weight or the fact that you are eventually going to look the way you want, begin trying to look for low fat or fat free foods.

4. go for the all naturals and organics. look for small ingredients lists and be able to know what all ingredients are. if you don't know what it is don't eat it.

these should be done in order for best results and to keep the weight off for good...

I was on weight watchers a few times and lost 30 pounds one of the times. But I gained it back when I quit. I feel like I just don't get enough to eat on it. I think I should have eaten more vegetables, but they are not my favorite food.
I tried South Beach and felt good on it and got to eat lots of protein which made me happy. But on that diet you have to eat some kind of fiber or you get constipated. I lost about 8 pounds in 2 weeks but then quit because my husband was tired of taking his meat sandwiches to work in lettuce instead of bread.
I think I may go back on it again since I liked it.
I never was on Medifast.
My daughter took some kind of diet pills when she was like 19 and had a seizure, so I don't recomend any of that stuff.
