it means it is up to you to continue the relationship. apparently you two are at some crossroad, and he is leaving it up to you to do whatever impasse you are at to continue. sounds like he could take it or leave it as if he doesn't really think it's worth the effort

It means he has served you a ball (as in told you his feelings). Now it is time for you to work out what you want, do u want to hit the ball back (persue the relationship) or let it slip (not persue the relationship). Thats what it means.

In basketball it means we are using your home court giving you the advantage. In a relationship its about the same....You have the power to do as you please because you have the advantage right now.
