Objects = it
"FISH" is an object, so.. you say : "IT" is a nice fish . NOT she/he .

You use the pronoun ''it'' because the word fish is a general noun and the fish can be of any gender (male or female) The pronoun ''it'' is a non specific pronoun. The pronouns ''he/ she are used ONLY when gender of the noun is known.

e.g.

''IT is a big fish''

''HE is called Juan''

''SHE is called Maria''

I hope this helps

Almost always "it", unless you're unusually attached to your pet fish and happen to know. My fish had babies, but I think I still said "it had babies" not "she had babies"--but then again I didn't really know which fish had them. If you're a fisherman bragging about a catch, you might be inclined to call the fish "he" to make your achievement seem more impressive.

Unlike other languages, English does not attribute genders to nouns (ex. objects, generics) - so we would just say "it." You may hear some English speakers (men mostly) refer to a car or a boat as "she" but that is not part of the language structure / grammar...

it all things that have no defined gender would be called an it, but if you are fully aware that the fish is a male or female then you could call it a he, she, or an it which ever applies

It...but it really doesn't matter...if you know the sex of the fish you can say he or she...but a fish itself doesn't have a gender attached to it in language...

Well when you're referring to an individual fish you'd normally use it because you don't know what its sex is.

But if you have a koi pond in your backyard and you know all the fish, you could use he or she if you wanted to.

If you know the fish's gender, then it is acceptable to use 'he' or 'she'. Otherwise, you would use 'it'.
