terrorism wont end but if the forces stay then martyrs will have some targets and if we leave they will claim victory. So we lose people or lose respect...and the USA would prefer to lose people.

Terrorism is a "generalization". This is exactly why it was used for the war. Terrorism will never end. It is impossible for terrorism to end. In some form it will always exist.

What better word could be used for a war that one would want to extend for territory after territory. There isn't a country we couldn't go into right now. Until we the American peoples woke up. Now it might not be so easy.

The Iraq people have an army. They can get support from others surrounding them. Disregard the war for a second. When you see picture of Iraq, though very painful to eye at this time, look at the architecture. They have skills they are not all desert dwellers. They have a way.

I think our administration wants us in Iraq. Of course, this is all only my opinion. What power can be achieved and money could be made if we stayed in Iraq.

I don't think terrorist are out to hurt the American people. Just as we shouldn't be out to kill innocent Iraqi's. If the two majorities were put together, the war would probably end.

Anyone will tell you (especially the iraqis) that they were much better off without the US. Even though they did get rid of Saddam...that is it...that's what Bush claimed they went to do....so bring the troops back. Yet Bush keeps making up new reasons just to try and justify the need for the troops there. Leave the poor people alone. Terrorism is not an issue in iraq. It NEVER was an issue in iraq to begin with. You people make it so easy for Bush to brainwash you and feed you his crap. Bush lets the KKK exist in the US. Does that mean other countries should be invading the US? Each to their own. Who said the US held all standards and that they are the country others should mimic?!!??

How many people believe that staying will end terrorism? An answer on a previous version of this question pointed out terrorism is a tactic (an idea). You cannot use the military to defeat an idea. It isn't a tangible thing. If military force has any impact, it certainly won't be one we want. It can only serve to enrage & engrain.

Iraq was fine before we went in. Saddam might not have been a nice guy, but he ran an effective government.

We violated our own founding principles by invading. The US is founded on the concept of popular sovereignty, which states only the governed give to controlling party power. Thus, only the people can overthrow the government. They did not, & we tried to force it. Thus, they are now in a civil war w/ no end in site.

No, there will still be terrorism and there will still be some bloodshed. Don't you think Iraq is ever going to be capable of handling any of this themselves?

We have been told the U.S. military has trained thousands of Iraqi troops and police. 40,000 more coming up. If the combat troops leave Iraq, it is my understanding that U.S. special forces and some military personnel will still be there to help in the training effort. Also, I have no doubt that the U.S. will keep them well armed.

We should wait until some of the political issues are resolved there, but I believe we need to leave in the foreseeable future. There is also a meeting of all of Iraq's neighboring countries including Iran and the U.S. next week. That should shed some light on what to expect when we leave.

The fact of the matter is that we broke it, and we broke it bad. Leaving will not fix it and staying may not fix it either.

The Iraqi people are more loyal to their tribes and families than they are to any government, Iraqi or otherwise. The government that we've installed doesn't hold the loyalty of the people. Saddam did it through fear.

So by jumping into this war unprepared and not knowing our enemy we've gotten ourselves in quite a pickle with no way out.

Sun Tsu, 1400 years ago, said " know your enemy, know yourself ". George Bush did neither.

Whether or not we pull out of Iraq, terrorism won't end. Think about it, you're talking about people who justify killing as a way to get closer to their God. They see us as subhuman and for the most part as notches on their beltway up to Allah. It's just a question of wasting more American lives on people who don't want us there. We're not responsible for the world. And we have no right to force our policies on other countries. These same countries who tend to look upon us as the superpower country who'll rescue the underdog, also see us as the arrogant ugly Americans. Basically, in world politics, we're the New York Yankees. They either love us or they love to hate us.

For all the "answerers" who said that Iraq never had a
problem until the US got there, they are dead wrong.
The normal person lived a life of Hell there. I dare you
to read the true story of life there written by a person
who survived but never thought she or her family would.
Get it free at your local library. Read it. Then see if you
would have liked to have been a citizen (?) over there
before the US ever got involved. The book is "Because
They Hate" by Brigitte Gabriel (a survivor of Islamic
terrorists). I don't think the US should give the enemy
any timetable of when we'd pull out. That is outrageous.
