There is a feminine and a masculine noun for most things in Spanish. For children in general, the masculine is used.

Mis ninos, with a tilde over the first 'n' in ninos.

Like one country will say nina (with the curl above the n) and the other nena

But ninos are children, hijos are sons I say nino because thats what you asked

You don't. You would respond with jejeje which is equivalent to lol in Spanish. Lol is an English slang term therefore it does not exist.
