Here's the answer you should hear, but don't want to.

We are a superpower. We could demolish Iraq and keep the oilfields. Yes. Its true we have the power to totally demolish Baghdad and other insurgent cities, and actually, I would say we should do it. We should do what every successful historic army of occupation has ever done in history, which is invade and destroy. Vanquish and obliterate. Take the money, gold and assets and leave. Sack the city. Take its riches. Kill everyone. Take no prisoners, no slaves, no survivors.

But because we are a "civilized nation", we are required to engage an enemy that wears no uniform, has no national identity, and cannot easily be separated from the innocent people they use as human shields --- in a humanitarian and civilized manner. That means ask questions first and then shoot.

Whereas our faceless, stateless enemy combatants, can shoot first and don't bother asking questions later. They cut heads off after torturing victims and then toss their headless bodies in the rivers of Iraq.

Take away the rules of engagement, and we simply demolish it. Gulty, innocent, all alike. Everything must go. Wipe it all off the face of the earth.

In fact, I would advocate using Iraqis from both sects (Suni and Shiite) as human shields by making them look for roadside bombs as our soldiers watch. And hey, if they get blown up --- that's A-O-K by me. Maybe they'll think first before planting roadside bombs, eh?

Would that Carthagenian peace convince you that we are a superpower?

However, the question you posed is really nothing more than an opinion so I am not sure how to answer your opinion.

It would take a lot to demish the U.S. as a superpower. California itself would be the 6th most powerful country at least economically. Many countries are getting weaker. France needs U.S. support to move its troops out of the country and England's navy will soon be smaller than Norway's, while Russia nearly has the same GNP as Mexico. Brazil, Mexico, India and China all are nowhere close to gaining economic strength. Sure they produce a lot, but the downside of selling products cheaply is there isn't much of a profit. They also suffer major corruption which eat up those profits.

I do see another dark age in 100 to 200 years though.

Why would they? Who is more powerful? As a superpower name another nation that helps out other countries as much as the USA does? I know of no other superpower that shares its wealth with the rest of the world as the USA does. This is the way it has been, is now and will be in the future.

If we don't start taking a strong stance at preserving the culture of western christian capitalist beliefs that made this nation great, and getting rid of all the anti American dual citizens that have no desire to learn our language and assimilate into our culture; and would stab us in the back any chance they get. That includes getting rid of political correctness, socialism and the ultra multicultural appeasement movement known as liberalism! It's not an outside threat I'm worried about. I believe our fall will likely come from within. One of the biggest enemies being George Soros! This guy is an American citizen that funds "The American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee Research Institute, and they've actually defended suicide bombers. He also supports La Raza, a mexican version of the KKK that hates America!

I wouldn't bet the house on it! Just because we are not using all of our power in the actions we are involved in at the moment, doesn't mean that we don't have the same power that we have had over the years. We are just as strong as ever, possibly even stronger! Don't make the mistake of counting us out just yet!

No way. I remember people saying the same thing after Viet Nam. We went on to become the ONLY superpower & still are. Iraq is WAY smaller than Viet Nam.

ABsolutely not. Why? Something happen to our power. We will still rescue millions, feed millions of others, cure millions of others. Any way, it takes a little longer for a superpower to go to nothing.

Not yet. We still have the best weapons.
Politics keep us from using them.
We could win the war in Iraq in 1 day, if we wanted.
But that does not sell weapons, does it?
