It's not necessary for adults or children. But if you like it and you are not lactose intolerant, it's an easy way to get calcium and protein and a few vitamins.

Cheese is a good substitute -- you can find low-fat cheese if you need to watch your diet.

Not-so-easy substitutes: various seaweeds, canned salmon with the bones in, canned sardines with the bones in, lots and lots of veggies that have calcium (like broccoli). I like all that stuff (which is a pity, because I like milk too (-:), but many children and adults don't.

If you don't drink it, you're right -- it's a waste. The cheese should be fine.

No it isn't necessary for adults. Actually some doctors do not recommend it at all. There is calcium in cheese, yogurt and some vegetables. We need the calcium but not necessarily cows milk.

Not necessary for adults or children. There are plenty of other ways to get calcium and vitamin D. I also heard once (I don't know if its true) that humans aren't able to metabolize the calcium from cow's milk.

Cow milk is definitely not a necessary part of an adult diet. Look up a man called Norman Walker and order one of his books, some are only 5 or 6 bucks.

No, its is not necessary at all. Many people do not eat any dairy at all, but you have to make sure you get your calcium from other sources. If you eat cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, and even spinach has calcium. If you are not getting enough in your diet, you can also take a calcium supplement.
