All emotions, including fear, have a usefulness; that is why they exist. Fear is a signal of danger, a danger of physical damage or death to us personally, or danger of damage to or loss of something or someone we value. Fear calls our atention, we look around and identify the danger, we begin to do something about it, and the fear fades out of the way to let us get on with doing it.
Fear is a physical survival response; in Christian terms, it is "of the flesh." This doesn't mean it is bad. It does mean that sometimes we have to over-ride it. We can be afraid to admit that we are wrong, or that we did something wrong, because "being wrong" is a damage to our image, and because the reactions of others may be painful. Knowing that admitting the wrong and correcting it will be beneficial in the long run may not help the way our body feels about it. Then we have to act "in the spirit" and drag our body along. Eventually, the body settles down.
Our bodies can be afraid of strangers, afraid of changing "the way we've always done things," afraid of the dark and of loud noises, afraid of anything new, afraid of not getting our own way, afraid of being rejected, afraid of making a sacrifice. Sometimes we have to over-ride the fear protecting a small thing, for the sake of a larger thing. If we love a more important goal, such as health, that can relieve the fear of jogging or giving up ice cream. If we love the truth, that can relieve the fear of finding out that something we've "always known" is wrong. If we love a larger group, like all human beings, that can relieve the fear of strange neighbors changing "our" neighborhood.

People are afraid of different things for different reasons.. some fears are more debilitating or stronger than others. Some fears are natural. But some fear isn't. Many times, fear has to do with putting your faith in the wrong things and not in G-d. Fearing what the world fears is torment... but trusting in G-d is life and abundance. If you put all your trust (fear) in G-d there won't be room for negetive fears, because G-d keeps you safe.

Fear jumpstarts the production of adrenaline to give us the necessary physiological tools to work the flight or fight response effectively. Fear also gives is a natural check to keep us from doing stupid things, usually.
If you're going for something more esoteric, we have fear because we don't like it when the world isn't the way we expect it to be and that's just one of the reactions to have, along with anger, frustration, sadness, etc.

Oddly enough there are only 2 main emotions that humans feel and all the others stem from those 2.
Love and Fear.
We have fear because it helps protect us. It is an evolutionary emotion that has helped us to survive. It's part of our 'fight' or 'flight' response.

Sometimes fear keeps us safe and keeps us from doing foolish things. If you don't have fear in certain situations you are probably either very foolhardy or insane.

no, if one, since birth, was told that something is scary with some tales, despite it's real or not, they'll have the fear of it, like any thype of phobia, it must have been a bad experience they had encounter before.
