why can't you reheat un popped kernels?

you can, you just have to heat oil and put the kernals in it and it pops.

Two reasons. As someone already pointed out, kernels that don't pop the first time probably don't have the moisture content to pop, so you're wasting your time.

And in the case of microwave popcorn, the unpopped kernels get very hot. They can actually set the bag on fire if you're not careful. It's never happened to me, but a friend of mine ruined a microwave that way.

There is a drop of water in the center that turns to steam and makes it pop, if no water is there it will never pop... :(

if they didn't pop the first time they will probably never pop. i kernal needs the right baalnce of moisture to starch to pop, if it is too dry, or has any cracks in the shell it will not pop.
