Today while at the grocery store I was putting my bags in the car. Nearby, an elderly man was sitting in his car playing Hank Williams and the volume turned up. After loading, I pushed the cart to the lot cart rack. Upon return to my car, I saw a woman and her young girl. About then Hank hit one of those long nasal twangs. The woman and young girl began to laugh and imitate the sound. I thought to myself, yes some music was funny when I was younger. Then rap and hip-hop came to mind. I do not even consider rap as music. I do not laugh at rap or imitate it. Rap is disgusting to me.

To each his own do you think?

To each his own certainly. I'm not a fan of rap music, but Hank Williams is much, much worse. Try punk rock or classical instead.

well people have different opinions about that. im not such a big fan of rap either except the songs with a true meaning(other than sex and drugs) it is like poetry with a beat. and hip-hop is just fun to dance to.

I like rap music. Of course, not all of it, but nobody like every song of any genre. Music is largely cultural. And so is religion (to relate this to the category).

"To each his own" is grammatically correct, as is "to each her own". "To each their own" is an attempt to make the phrase more gender-equal but it's not correct grammatically. In that case it should be "to each its own", but people don't really like being described as an "it". The problem arises because English doesn't have a gender-neutral way to refer to a person. It's either "his" or "her" or "it"; the first two are gender-specific and the third doesn't refer to people in particular.

I agree, when it comes to music, everyone hears a different tune in their head ... each has their own preference for what speaks to them.
