It all depends on how the label is stuck on. If it is a self adhesive label then heat is needed, if an water soluble paste then soaking in warm water will work.
If this is a wine from a new world country or a very recent wine from the old world it is likely to be self adhesive. Pour boiling water into the bottle, leave for 5-10 minutes and see if you ca peel the label off.
Otherwise try soaking the bottle in a bowl of warm water and see if the label comes off.
Sometimes the label is stubborn -- you can use a 'label-lifter' - which is a sheet of clear plastic with a strong adhesive that fixes to the label and strips it off.
See this page for info on removing labels - http://www.winelabels.org/remove.htm

I've done this plenty of times myself, and the easiest way I found is a couple shots of Goo Gone on the labels, then I wrap the bottles around with a bit of Saran wrap and let it sit for about 10 minutes so the GG soaks to the adhesive underneath. A butterknife scrapes the labels right off, wash well in warm soapy water and dry.

steaming it might work if you want to save the label. If you don't want to save the label just soak it in warm soapy water.

I would try steaming it off or I would use a funnel and fill it with almost boiling water.
