I am throwing a 30th birthday party and I want to invite this person, but I do not have his home address or email, but I do have his work address. Is that ok, or is it really bad to send personal mail to someone at their work place?

I don't know if it's "officially" bad manners, but I wouldn't do it just for the reason that he could possibly get reprimanded for getting social invitations at work. I personally would be kind of upset if someone sent me an invitation at work, it looks unprofessional.

Not a good plan as in is a business unless he owns the business. If you know this guy well enough to invite him to a party than look his address up in the phone book or ask friends that know him too. If you don't know him that well I would imagine he wouldn't be too pleased being sent personal mail to his work place. It could cause him a problem.

I wouldn't do it. Many places of business have policies against personal mail. If you know someone else that knows him, ask them for an address, or search the web. There are services that will give this info. Try Anywho.

If they own the business, then possibly yes. If they are just an employee however, no, that could actually get them fired. Then again it all depends on the employer.
Unless you want to ask you friend directly whether it is okay or not, your safest bet is to just mail it to their mailbox or give it to them personally.

Yes. Some employers will block personal email, while others monitor mailboxes and have fired employees for improper use of office resources.
