i agree the green white checkered is flawed. a race should NEVER, under any circumstances end in the middle of a lap, period. they should always race to the checkered flag.

I too hate the grn/wht checker but there are a few problems with a 5 lap grn end or 10 lap green ending. First, in many nascar races the drivers are holding back a little until the end and then taking a few more chances during the last few laps. By trying more moves they may be causing the crashes, So, by moving the race ending they may just push back the crashes. Also, if you add laps it can totally mess up the fuel strategies for the cars so you would probably see more drivers running out of gas near the end, which may require more cautions. Plus, most racing that has a tv deal, like nascar, has to have time limits of some sort and the additional laps may cut into that time. In my opinion we could do without a lot of the post race stuff in nascar.

No you are not the only one, my fantasy racing league friend thinks so as well. I DON'T agree, fuel was already an issue towards the end of yesterday's race. If a team is trying to work a fuel strategy win and would have made it under a normal green/white/checkered finish why should they get screwed because a few people want to see it finish under green? 5-10 more green flag laps, then if more cautions come out during those where would it end? You would never get out of Bristol under that system. The races are plenty long as it is and you're way would make it longer and has the potential of allowing a driver that's the 2nd or 3rd guy a lap down getting back on lead (if enough cautions came out) lap and winning the race at the end.

The G-W-C finish is a short track thing that worked with the old American Speed Association. When NASCAR adapted it for competition it looked like a good saftey measure but at last fans noticed that the finishes of the races were altered by the G-W-C.
A 10 lap shoot-out would be an idea but the fine tuning would have to be done.NASCAR is attempting to make the best show for the fans.
There are too many G-W-C finishes and too many debris cautions that alter races.

Well the green white checkered is there for a legitimate reason. I mean its the end of the race and your going to have to go into overdrive and why make them race longer because isnt it all about stategy and who has the best car and the best gas mileage and everything like that? I think that its fine the way it is because rarely does it ever end under caution and its because people want to advance their positions so badly that they wreck people causing caution and I guess this wreck is going to be considered the big one because they technically didn't have a big one today, but the last lap crash was awesome, and I'm glad Jeff got another win... I think what ever the distance of the race is, is what it should be. period! Red flag the race like they used too so they can get it in under green. If the yellow comes out with a couple laps left that is the end. Every one does that except nascar unless it is a special nascar race. common exception to the rule of racing is nascar.

I dont know about giving everyone a free ride for fuel, but it should at least be a race to the finish line. Since it takes these cars bout a lap and a half to get up to speed they should go to 5 laps.

The reason for GWC's were to finish under green, and they have done that for the most part. Rarely does another wreck occur, ending the race under caution. With your scenario, they could end up with like 50 extra laps. I think two is sufficient.

It's ironic that the reason for the GWC is because Junior finished 2nd to Gordon under cauion a few years back at 'Dega, and because of the backlash by Earnhardt Nation, they institued the rule. The funny part is ,they are the ones complaining about it all the time.

No, youre not the only one. I think thats a pretty good idea. I cant tell you how mad I was earlier when they finished that race under a caution. Nobody even had anytime to advance their position. My step dads a Gordon fan, I'm a Kahne fan. I was pretty mad when that wreck happend, knowing Gordon was going to win. Dont get me wrong, its not that I dont like Gordon, but it would have been great to see a talladega race end like a talladega race.
