What is the process for a hit in run/leaving the scene of an accident? My car was recently hit?

and I am going tomorrow to turn it into the police. Will I have to go to court? How long will it take them to find & contact the person if I have their license plate number? Will they just call them that day if they are easily found?
the damage is minimal i just want to make sure i get my money.

If you have insurance - file a claim with your insurance company. You need to file a police report to validate that this was a hit and run and your insurance company will require a copy of that report. The police - unfortunately, will do nothing other than sign off on the police report. If you want recourse - contact your insurance company.

If you are worried if it will affect your rates - it will not. If you have collision coverage - it will be covered as a NOT at fault accident. If you have no collision coverage but have Uninsured motorist property damage (UMPD) coverage, your policy may be able to cover your damages through that. Your insurance company will run the license plate to determine the owner of the vehicle. If your damages are above your deductible (if you have collision coverage) or they pay under your UMPD coverage, they will want to pursue subrogation to recover the money. They will either pursue the owner if they do not respond, or if the owner does respond, a claim will be filed with the adverse carrier.

Again - the best recourse for you - is to let your insurance company handle it - and make sure you stay on them so that they do pursue it.

I hope you dont really think they are going to get caught.. just being honest. All they have to do is say they dont know what your talking about.. and if you have no witnesses.. and they have already fixed their damage.. your screwed. I mean, the police have murders to solve.. so your minor damage isnt going to be top priority.

I recommend you tell your insurance company as well that way they can attempt to go after the at fault party for your damages but be ready to face the harsh reality that you likely will never see your repairs done through the at fault party in this situation...

Not calling the police right away severely jeopardizes any chance you have of recovering from them. They can claim they never touched your car, they can claim your damage had to have happened somewhere else. And if their car is damaged they could say this happened last week.
Hate to say it, but you xxxxxxxxxxxxx yourself.

Whoa.....tomorrow? As in it happened and you didnt immediately call the police, or your insurance company; and left the scene too? Wow.

Way to go.
