We are in the book of Acts. We were studying chapters 3 and 4, when Peter was told by the Pharisees to stop preaching in the name of Jesus Christ and what he did was go and pray with other believers that he would speak the gospel message with even more boldness.

"The theme?" In Catholicism, Orthodox Christianity, Episcopalianism, Anglicanisn, Methodism, there are no themes. We all follow a Lectionary .... around the world, therefore we are all on the same "page". We do not pick themes because we are not about our own agenda. We follow the life of Christ. For all of us today, the Gospel was about Jesus as the Good Shepherd. During this time between Easter and Pentecost (5/27) every Sunday gospel reading is from John's Gospel....known as the Gospel of Glory. I just love that unity that we have!

It was about Christ in His role as the Good Shepherd. Also, it was about how Christ spoke in parables in order to impart a multidimensional spiritual experience to His followers. Some people can only understand on a basic, literalistic level, and that's one way of looking at things. But others grasp the deeper meaning of Christian mysticism. However people choose to understand, it's important that they're getting the message. Christ's message of love is for all people everywhere, regardless of their current level of spiritual development.

Based upon the Parable of the Dishonest Manager (Luke 16, I think), being a good manager of your money and material possessions, and using said money and possessions to win people to heaven. One part of the lesson was also not to let anyone pressure you into giving your money.
1) Money and possessions are a tool. (It's something we use.)
2) Money and possession are a test. "If you cannot handle worldly wealth, who will give you true wealth?"--that is, spiritual revelation and guidance and such.

Being obedient to what God is telling us to do even when it means making sacrifices in our life. Pastor used the story of Abraham being told to sacrifice Isaac but then when God saw he could be trusted to be obedient even when it meant sacrificing his own son (who God had given him miraculously anyway), then God knew Abraham could be trusted with the path God had laid out for him which was to be the father of many nations. Judaism, Christianity and Islam all had their start with Abraham. Blessings

We had a lesson on public service. Helping those in need. Our church continues to sponsor disaster cleanup in Louisiana, which we raised some addtional funds and got volunteers for. It was in context of the "Good Samaritan" story.

OUR THEME WAS JOHN 5:1-15 WHERE JESUS CURED THE PARALYTIC BY THE POOL OF BETHESDA. "Rise, take up your bed and walk". So incredibly inspiring.
