Hey Ashley,

Swyrich.com never has French names, and it does not have Avalon. I do find Avalon in Family search as follows:
0. FLEURE TERESA AVALON - International Genealogical Index / CE
Gender: Female Marriage: 1810 , Alsace-Lorraine Province, France

And then I see a James Avalon from Ireland coming to the USA through Ellis Island. But my bet is on French, and that James was a migrant to Ireland from France.

It's certainly uncommon. Earliest found at familysearch.org was WILLIAM AVALON - International Genealogical Index / BI
Gender: Male Marriage: 11 NOV 1741 Winfarthing, Norfolk, England -- If you get back to this one in your research I'd bet it won't be easily done!
