A really good cut is the essential key to great curly hair.
Get a good stylist to advise you on a cut based on your hair type and face shape. You should be able to find one you like out of the choices she gives you. Get enough hair taken off so that what's left is in perfect condition, no split ends etc.
If you have a look you like, take pictures of it with you, but be prepared to hear her say that it might not be possible to get that look with your hair or bone structure.
After a great cut comes hair care. Get a gentle shampoo (no "stripping" or "clarifying" unless your hair is really oily) especially if you wash it every day, and a SUPER conditioner. Try to avoid really perfume-y products and ones with a lot of alcohol. I love products from The Body Shop, they really seem to work for curly hair.
After your shampoo, comb out your hair gently with a wide-tooth comb. Before your shampoo, brush for a few minutes with a natural bristle brush to distribute the natural oil from the scalp to the hair shaft and ends.
Now comes the real super secret trick.........Nothing!
Yep, that's right. Don't use gel, mousse, spray, etc. Don't blow-dry your hair. Just scrunch it gently while it's drying and then finger comb it. Then pull it back or up or add ornaments, or let it flow naturally!
It took me years to learn how to care for my hair and love its curl, but now I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I feel your pain, I used to have such crappy, frizzy curly hair that I wore it up all the time.. Well I finally kinda learned on my own kind of got help from people. Heres some tips:
*Products.. It all starts with the shampoo & and conditioner you use.. I would go with something that says its moisturizing in it.. Like Sunsilk FrizzEase. Once you shampoo, and condition put about a nickel/or quarters worth depending on how much hair you have of conditioner back in your hair... Just not in your roots.
*Then dry your hair a little but only so its not soaking. And you want to put something like frizzease and 247 sunsilk cream. (these are both quite inexpensive and last awhile) Put about a dimes size frizzease and a nickel/quarters size of sunsilk cream mix together and run it through your hair.. If you have more hair put a little more.. Not too much or your hair will look greasy..
After scrunch your hair and airdry.
Also.. NEVER brush your hair when its dry or blow dry your hair.. Either way they make your hair way too frizzy.

hey my hair used to be like that too--veryyy frizzy, and hard to control curls.
Nowadays I use garnier fructis curl and shine (i think shine) system (shampoo and conditioner) with garnier fructis sleek and shine leave in conditioner which helps manage the frizz a lot more while the curl system helps keep the curly hair a lot more manageable than it has been ever in my life! As for the use of products, I use shampoo and conditioner every weekend while using the leave-in conditioner everyday.
oh yeah, garnier system doesn't seem to work instantaneously tho (except for leave-in conditioner which u can SEE the results in a second) but it definitely works in the longer term--give it a few weeks like atleast 2 weeks-1 month to see how far it gets you. To actually see the improvement, I recommend using it for atleast 3 months to see the difference though (the time goes w/any product you use, be it hair products or cosmetics, etc).
Hope you get your beautiful hair soon!

Leave in conditioners will help with some of the frizz I suggest Biolgue (can get it at a salon), or aussie. Suave's anti-frizz gel helps keep frizz down too, also try aussie scrunch spray.
If your hair is really thick try getting it thinned out a little.

i don't shampoo everyday...every other day or even every third day works best for me. i condition daily, and on the days i shampoo, i deep condition. i don't blow dry my hair, unless i'm going to straighten it, and i rarely do that...i use a leave in hair treatment made for long, curly hair, and it acts as a gel. it's sebastian's potion #9. when i don't have that...i just use a regular gel, and scrunch may hair a little bit and use a spray gel. i also use leave in conditioner when i need to.
the key to curly hair is moisture...curly hair is very dry, and thirsty...i am always getting complimented on my hair;)

if you just want curly hair, you should use "denise McAdams" hair serum, or "Nicky Clarke" products. i have real frizzy hair, but because of the products i use it's pretty curly. it goes in ringlets and stuff!
you should wash your hair with these products, and while it's still wet you should brush it. well.
do not use hair dryers because they will just dry your hair out and make it even frizzier!
hope this helps. phants x x x

i love my hair immediately. yet in certain circumstances its constructive to have curls each and every once and a lengthy time period. for faculty i straighten it well-known. and perchance once a week or 2 i curl it for an afternoon or so{:

Lots of conditioner.... Or try a smoothing serum, you can get them in the shampoo isle. If they don't work get a straightener!
