I have Windows Media Player 11. Since I downloaded it, I can no longer watch embedded video clips on my favourite websites like sky sports and wwe.com. I can hear the sound but the video stays black.

When I had WMP10, it worked fine, and when I am elsewhere on another computer I can watch these clips fine. What am I missing? Do I need a codec or something.

Any help would be much appreciated from people that had a similar problem.

I would try reinstalling it. I don't think you can uninstall WMP. You have to install fresh again over existing.

Not sure about Sky Sports... when I did try that site a few months ago they wanted me to click "agree" to them installing something in order to watch video content. For the past few years, sky's website(s), including news, must have been one of the worst, slowest websites on the net... but recent updated revamp on the site makes it much better.

The error gives you the answer, the type of file you are trying to play isn't setup to run in windows media player or your selected file tyoe do not include that type of file. Search filext for the file extension you are trying to play, it will give you links to either download the correct codec or at least tell which programs run that type of file.

You need a DivX codec. The best thing to do (I never found the codec alone) is to download DivX, and the codec is part of the package.

11 is buggy especially if you don't have vista. Uninstall it and it will roll back to 10.

you might not have the right codecs to play those files.

If you are using firefox then you also need to install some plugins.
