It says so in the bible.

Next we could try it out in NASA; see how well the rockets launch after that.

And if it doesn't work we'll tell them they were not faithful enough that pi=3.

Edward J: Scientists do and should question evolution. And if we discover pi is actually a different number than the one we had thought, then all our science books would change.

But until that happens, lets not introduce pure lies into the school system, like ID. That was my point; the only reason fundies have a problem with evolution is because it conflicts with the Bible. But so does pi; hence the apparant contradiction. To keep things fair, lets change pi as well.

You are referring to social darwinism which was an off-branch and NOT part of Darwin's theory.

Could you tell me where in the Bible it says that Pi = 3 and not:

You're absolutely right, but next time include your sources:

1 Kings 7:23 "He made the Sea of cast metal, circular in shape, measuring ten cubits from rim to rim and five cubits high. It took a line of thirty cubits to measure around it."

The diameter of this circle is 10 cubits, and its circumference is 30 cubits. According to the inerrant word of God, the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter is 3:1. This is incorrect; not even close, in fact. Many civilizations, such as the Babylonians and Egyptians, had gotten much closer than God centuries earlier.

A nearly identical passage occurs in 2 Chronicles 4:2-5.

There, I've done your homework for you. Now spread the word!

MNL 1221: I commend your logic (I like that silver car thing) but you are forgetting that Jews and Christians regard his passage as the literal word of God. He knows all and can never be wrong. Maybe the people at the time of the writing weren't launching spaceships, but God could have if he wanted to. I hear your argument so frequently, but it doesn't hold up.

If someone told me something was a foot long and it turned out to be 14 inches (which sadly is not usually the case), I would think they estimated poorly. God is incapable of doing anything poorly. His omniscient intellect allows--no, requires--him to be 100% precise 100% of the time. Otherwise, he is lying. And God cannot lie, because lying is a sin, and God cannot sin, because God...oh, my. I'm getting dizzy.

Well according to the point you are trying to make then we shouldn't question evolution. And yet scientists do question it which is why it has been revised. I believe you are aware there is more than one theory of evolution. If most people actually knew what Darwin proposed they would be repulsed which is why some of what he taught is not allowed in school. Such as believing men are evolved than women and black people are less evolved. Then we have the date of the earth which has been revised many times with huge time differences. So if evolution was never questioned we should all be believing it just as Darwin taught it. So the point is it is questioned. Then who says who gets to question and who doesn't? Only those who agree with your perspective?
Edit: My point is the theory of evolution is open to interpretation which is why it should be questioned. But by who only those who are going to give yo the answer you want? Do they own science? In fact all science is supposed to be open to re-testing and question but when it comes to the sacred cow of evolution only those who have the answer before the question are allowed to question it. If scientific theories can only tested by those who believe then what kind of science will you have?

For those asking for the verse, it's 1 Kings 7:23.

And he made a molten sea, ten cubits from the one brim to the other: it was round all about, and his height was five cubits: and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about.

Ya know, about 20 years ago, some state (I think it was Nebraska) legislature actually passed a law declaring Pi to be equal to 3. I think it was repealed.

no, because pi isn't 3

there is a logical reason that pi = 3, because its the ratio of a circles diameter to it's circumference, anything other than pi would give incorrect answers.

mathematics is pure logic.

religion is a different kettle of fish, it's based on peoples beliefs and life-values.

you have no right to mock their lifestyle, just as they have no right to judge other peoples.

Asking the Bible to be scientifically precise is like asking a poet to write like a lawyer.

If your child described to you a car accident, and she said the car was silver when it was really just gray, would you conclude that there was no accident?

If someone told you that something was a foot long, and you measured it and it was 14 inches long, would you call that person a liar?

Remember, in the time of the Bible, they weren't launching spaceships!

This guy thinks that pi should be 6.283..., or 2Pi. He makes a good point.
