Step 1 are you looking at show or working strain - learn the difference the two camps don't get along any better than the Hatfield's and McCoys.
Step 2: Join a breed club (networking) and get into one or more activity with your dogs so your DOGS are also known
step 3 Border collies have eye problems occasional hip problems and epilepsy. test for the first two, research pedigrees for the last. and check with that breed club for other problems
Step 4 found a mentor in that breed club??
