We,(my dad and I),used to watch every race that was televised when I grew up.That was in the late 60's and through the 70's. There were people in Nascar that just got their car built right before the race. But they were allowed to try to make name for themself. This is a farce that is put out for people to spend money on. And thats all it's for. Does anybody that watched Yarborough,Allison(both), and Petty battle it out still watch?

Those guys were all about racing, not contracts, or sponsors, or interviews or fan clubs. Sponsors run NASCAR now and that's why it's so hokey. It's not your father's company any more.

I really miss the old days. I loved it when the cars looked like the real cars and there weren't any templates to match up (I think we are IROC now) and everybody bought their best car. Crew chiefs were guessing at how many more laps they could make it, not calculating it on the computer. Drivers worked out their problems with each other off camera and if they happened to catch it on camera, they actually aired it and no one got penalized. Those were real race days. NASCAR is heading in the same direction as the Indy cars went and you see what happened to them. Watching the races now are totally boring. No wonder they've lost their fan base. I think they are picking up some of the lost Indy car fans though.

Man what I wouldn't give to see Tim Richmond and Dale Sr. race just one more time. That was real racing!

Right here. I watched Leroy Yarbrough, David Pearson, The King ... remember watching the broadcast of Pete Hamilton's Daytona win in the Superbird. It's never been the same since the winged Mopars disappeared after two seasons. But it's still exciting to hear the deep roar of a NASCAR motor; beats that annoying F-1 buzz by a mile!

The modern era blows.
Give me the day when NASCAR run Detroit Iron. The races were run with the TRUE fastest drivers running. No Provisionals No top 35.If you did not qualify you packed upand came back the next week.
These free passes and phantom debris and G-W-C finishes are ruining a real sport.

I don't enjoy today's races as much as back in the day. I would like to see the cars going back to being stock cars. Today's NASCAR cars don't even resemble real cars anymore. Cale Yarborough and Richard Petty were greatness.

I was always a Rusty Wallace fan...I don't keep up with racing anymore.

I remember going to my Granny's house every Sunday afternoon - that was when they weren't all televised. It was a BIG day when they were. My Granny had Richard Petty everything! We would watch on a little 13 inch with mediocre reception...lol.

With the corporate sponsorship and the money and prestige going on in todays Nascar I long for the good ole days. And I mean that sincerely.

HERE'S one... and thanks for letting me know I'm not alone. I remember Richard "The King" Petty, all the Allison brothers... yep... Cal (who was a GENTLEMAN compared to Earnhardt Sr... sorry, but that's how I feel!)... and all the old-time names.

But there's some great racing to be had these days still. It's just harder to "see" and glossed over by a lot of glitz and glamour.
