First get the big things ready. Call around for churches (if you plan on getting married at a church) otherwise call for parks, or wherever you want to hold the ceremony at. A deposit is usually required so be prepared to have money ready for that. Also reserve where you want your reception to be. Find a DJ or a band if you are going to have a dance. If you want to hire a decorator start looking into that too. Those are the main things to do right away because some reception halls are booked 18 months in advance. Look into a photographer too.

Also have a budget in mind. Weddings are expensive and if you don't have a budget in mind you might get a little carried away.

There are a lot of books out there to help you plan your wedding and they have checklists in them. Go to any bridal store and they should have them available. It was a life saver for me and I used it. It also has a guest list and a space for addresses too and that was very helpful.

Remember don't stress too much!! It's a very exciting day but it can get stressful planning it. Good Luck!

HI-
I used to plan weddings. It's a passion. First, decide where the ceremony is going to be. Are you religious? Can it be in a park with a justice of the peace, a church, a temple? Decide your wedding party. Usually 1 maid per 50 guests. Decide the date. Never to early to book with a florist.Decide a color scheme and let the florist show you what she can do with flowers of the season(money saver) Make a budget. Pick out your gown. Pick out your bridesmaids gowns. Order invitations-Decide what time of day you want to have it. Morning, Victorian brunch, Afternoon, or Evening(black tie) Book a reception place quickly and taste their foods. Choose a menue. Order a Cake and schedule for it to be delivered. Send Invites out 4-6 weeks before the wedding. You can send save the date cards out 2-3 months before the wedding. That's always fun. Ask for help because getting married is wonderful but also overwhelming. Remember why you are doing this, you love this guy and by the time the wedding comes little things that might go wrong you won't even notice----
Also, book a photographer and band or DJ-they are usually booked well in advance.
Hope that helped a little! Andee_sky

If the wallet calls for a wedding planner then get one, but if not VISUALIZE , that big day. From the nooks to the Gautier. Then make that move, write down the most important stuff, like the officiator, the place, then you already know who is going to be in the wedding, see that you give them as much as possible of an to do list. Perhaps your sister can be the one who's in charge of the brides maid's dresses, and the groom's men. Have meetings with the people you have put in charge of these things and make this work for you. Just like a well oiled machine.

First set a date. Then find where you want your ceremony and reception and book the date. From there on you need to get your dress (at least six months in advance), musicians/dj, flowers, cake , invitations, favors etc. Look into any bridal magazine and there usually is a checklist and an order and timeline in which to do it. After you book your site, you can decide on the style of the wedding and the feel. Good luck!

First, you need a date and then reserve the church and reception area. That should be done a year in advance. Bridesmaids and groomsmen should be selected and notified. Find your own gown. Get together with the bridesmaids to discuss dress patterns, but the colors are your choice. Decide on a guest list, order invitations. Flowers, reception foods, photographer, gifts for beidesmaids and groomsmen. There are several web sites that lay all of this out in far more detail and offer time lines. Look around the web; you'll find much info there. And... congratulations !!!

Start with: the date, the ceremony location, the reception location.
After those are out of the way, DJ, photographer, and florist- you dont have to know all the details yet, you just need to reserve them well in advance. Also, it is never too early to shop for your dress!
Get some bridal magazines- many include checklists and time schedules to help you get organized.

Go to the weddings section of a larger bookstore and look for a planner like the Martha Stewart Weddings Binder or TheKnot.com Wedding Planner. Also check out theknot.com which is a website dedicated entirely to wedding planning.

You start by telling the brides mother you are getting married and then she will take over everything from there
