Most religious people get along just fine with one another despite differing beliefs.
Its when the fundies show up that the fights start and blood gets shed and innocent people get killed.
If we could outlaw self righteousness and confine anyone who used violence or threats in the name of religion I think the world could be a better place for all.
Don't you?

It would be wonderful to stop fundamentalism. The problem is it can be a starting point towards greater enlightenment or confused for pure enthusiasm for finally finding a path that works.
The fundamentalists that cause the problems are the ones who refuse to ever grow beyond their own narrow view point, that goes for all fundamentalists not just the religious ones. If there was a safe way to punish those without hurting the ones who just need time to grow, it would help the world be a better place.

Weeelll - that's a tough one. One thing that fundamentalists are all about is restricting what other people do and believe. Do you want to be just like that? And I don't think it's possible to outlaw self-righteousness - you can't make laws against thoughts. And who decides?

The world would be a better place without organized religion in general, in my opinion. Imuch prefer disorganized religion. :-)

Well, I'm just thankful that our court system is wise enough to take some of these fundies to task, and EXPLAIN to them the difference between simply "witnessing" and harassment.

Some people just believe that God/Jesus gives them a blank check to be totally freaking obnoxious and get up in people's faces with a very aggressive "ministry."

I'm glad the courts take these guys down a notch when they get out of hand.

Sure, let's replace religious fundamentalism with another form of fundamentalism. It sounds like a great idea! Oh wait...they did that in Communism, and it didn't turn out too well.

dude,

the laws are there already

these are laws that are against ANY kind of violence and threat

but what youre talking about is completely eradicating fundamental behaviour..that you cannot do

I believe that when a persons nature revolves around extremity, they will express themsevles in extreme ways no matter what they use an as excuse. (religion, dogma, your cat etc)

Are you saying that fundamentalists use violence and threats in the name of religion? And what planet do you live on? Fundamentalists believe that the Bible is the breathed and true word of God. Most Christians do not believe in violence or threats or starting fights. Sorry, but I think you need to brush up on your Bible a little bit.

Violence is already against the law. We have a freedom of religion and the minute we lose that- we are no longer free.

Well, acts of violence and threats are already against the law.

No, I don't think fundamentalism should be banned, but it should be avoided at all costs.

That would be fine in principal, but it could not be practically accomplished.

Who would define who is a fundamentalist?

everyone would be biased. The result would be that you would either let too many fundamentalist run around or you would ban legitimate religious thought.

Perhaps, but then isn't that doing to the fundies what they are doing to everyone else? Unfortunately to do that would make us no better than them.... Do unto others...?
