Disqualifications
1. Any deviation from the height prescribed in the Standard.
2. A thoroughly pink nose or one lacking in any pigment.
3. Eye rims without pigment.
4. Docking or otherwise altering the length or natural carriage of the tail.
********5. Any other color or a combination of colors other than black, yellow or chocolate as described in the Standard.
(WHICH MEANS SILVER/GRAY, BYB and puppy mills will breed silver. ANYONE who breeds silver and says they are 'akc' either jipped the AKC or wrote the papers themselves.)

First of all, never buy a dog from a pet store. Here is why:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=2HM8UmHM8Uo
Secondly, there is no such thing as a Silver or Grey Labrador. If someone breeds these dogs, they are not keeping with the breed standard, and the dogs are most likely Labrador/Weimeraner mixes. Labs come in only three colors:
Yellow, Chocolate, and Black.
Lots of breeders will sell these mixes as purebred Labradors and even give you the papers on the dog, which is considered fraud. They will also jack up the price by thousands of dollars just because they can tout the dog as a "rare" color.
I suggest you look elsewhere.

Well, if you're looking for a silver/grey labrador retriever, the pet store is the best place to get one!
There is no such thing, but with the puppies Pet Stores sell, you might get lucky. They have NO PROOF they are purebred, and they usually come from puppymills.

Labrador Retrievers do NOT come in silver/gray. This color is controversial and some claim it is a Weimaraner cross, while others say it is a true mutation.
They come in solid black, yellow, or chocolate.
Plus, you should never purchase a dog from a pet store. Adopt or purchase from a breeder!
The only gray dog I can think of, that resembles a Labrador in any way, is a Weimaraner. Maybe that's what you are thinking of.

For fruther clarity a dog with a breed DQ is unshowable NOT unregisterable in most cases. A FEW DQ's are present because there is not such thing as a pubreed with this fault/color (usually after someone produce some said to be pure but probably not). You need to be familure with the breed to say for sure.... and I'm not sure of labs

Labs come in black, chocolate, yellow and white (actually off-white)
Never seen a silver one, and I work at a doggie daycare where we have LOTS of labs come in.
You may be thinking of a weimaraner? If so be sure and read up on the breed, NOT a dog to purchase simply because you like the looks. They are *highly* intelligent working dogs who will find more ways to get in trouble than you can imagine, if left alone. They need a firm hand and obedience training. (You have to be smarter than a dog to train it!)
Not a dog to be left in the back yard, they need a generous amount of exercise; they are an indoor dog and have a strong drive to be with/near their person. They can be an absolute joy for the right owner, or a nightmare for the one who chooses them for the wrong reasons.
Weims should be the national poster pup for separation anxiety.

I would find a breeder in your area first it may be better that way in the price. I would start by going to yahoo yellow pages first and look up the stores and see first then if you want the short cut look online for breeders of that breed of dog.
To let you know that these are rare dogs to have and find so your best bet is to look in other states for them I have given you some sites to start your search.
To let you know there is such a color as Gray labs but they are not sound at all they are years and yars of inbreedig and not sound at all if you get one chances are you will have more vet bills then you wish to have. If you want a Gray Silver dog then try another breed.

Dogs shouldn't be purchased from a "pet store". Those dogs come from puppy mills & you can expect to spend alot of $$ on future vet bills. I recommend you check out petfinder.com and do some other online research before buying a dog.

I'm sorry but there is no such thing that I know of as a silver/grey Lab. Are you thinking of another breed perhaps?
