depends upon the dish, but potatoes can be added to make foods less salty.

Something new (to me) from the website below, you can try adding something sour (lemon juice) and sweet (sugar) to balance out the flavor.

It depends on what the dish is. You can mellow with addtional potatoes if it's a soup, any liquid will mellow: water, milk, tomato juice. You can also double the recipe and omit the salt from the second batch, I like to share anyway.

I believe I remember that a potatoe split in half and added to a recipe will absorb the salt - while cooking - then
just remove the potatoe

but after it's been prepared - ooohhhhhhh maybe not

The dodges and remedies mentioned earlier can all be valid while the cooking process is still going on. They can temper things. If, however, you discover the over-seasoning once cooking is complete, the only thing you can do is change the *perception* of saltiness, which is to serve the dish less than piping hot. Our perception of salinity decreases with decreasing the serving temperature of the dish -- that's why we have to season e.g. patés much more liberally when they are meant to be eaten cold -- and we can achieve a degree of 'rescue' for a salty dish by serving at 70°-80°C to the table, but any over-seasoning beyond 'a slip', discovered at this stage, really means starting over.. :-(

Depends on how it was prepared.
If it has liquid in it pour the liquid off, put some water in it , stir, pour it off, put a little more water and bring to a boil. If it's meat you can put it in water , bring to a boil, let sit a few minutes , pour the water off, Cook a few minutes in oven, toaster oven or skillet.
That should get rid of a lot of salt.
Adding a few more ingrediants to it and cooking more will get rid of too much salt too.

You didn't say what you were making and if you are saying you have added too much salt, try incorporating some peeled potato.

If it's a stew, you put slices of raw potato on top. It absorbs some of the salt.

It would help if you tell us what you made.
