I really get annoyed when my friends and I discuss religion, they are Baptist and I am Catholic, they always say-well Christians believe ect.... and I try to explain to them -No Baptist believe-
Clue people to be Christian is to believe in Jesus Christ-Catholics do that thus making us Christian as well.

Tebone-Being Catholic you should know that it is not right to put down any other religions. Catholic isn't the Right choice-God is the Right choice no matter how you worship him.

PJK-Your history has forsaken you, Catholics did not split in order to put ourselves above any other faith but to allow us to practice our faith in a way we felt closest to God.

It is not true as the one answerer said "we, (as Christan's) all believe in the same God,etc.." Believing in God and practicing those beliefs are two totally different endeavors. As I've said in many other answers, the possibility that non-Catholics question whether Catholics are Christian probably lies in the fact that there are so many rituals and practices that involve the Pope, Mary, priests, sacraments, saints, rosaries, catechism, etc... and it makes a person who knows nothing about Catholicism WONDER where does JESUS fit in to all of these things?? Non-Catholics see no reason for all of these other rituals, they usually just rely on Biblical teachings alone to worship and honor Jesus. I hope that helps you understand what some of the reasons might be as to why other Christians are skeptical as to Catholics belief in Jesus.

Most non-Catholic Christian denominations accept Catholics as Christians. A very few do not.
A dictionary would say that a Christian is someone professing belief in Jesus as Christ or following the religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus.
Catholics would fit this definition.
In the Nicene creed, from 325 A.D., Catholics profess:
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in being with the Father.
Through Him all things were made.
For us and our salvation He came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit, He was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered, died, and was buried.
On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of the scriptures: He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. We are baptized as Jesus commanded in Matthew 28:19, "in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."
We truly are spiritually "born again," we just don't usually use those words.
With love in Christ.

It's largely due to ignorance (that is, lack of knowledge) about what we Catholics believe and why we believe it. Some Protestant denominations encourage their believers to treat Catholicism as a cult, and some people simply don't understand our faith. Rather than research our beliefs or talk to those of us who've studied our faith, they blindly accept someone else's word as the truth.
Like I've said around here before, do they really think that we dance naked around Zeus' altar or sacrifice chickens to Legba? We worship the one living and true God, and we know that the only way to Heaven is to accept Christ's atoning Sacrifice on the Cross for our sins.
Last time I checked, that makes us Christians. It's sad that others don't always accept us as such, but that's just the way it is. God bless you!

A true Christian is a person who has put his or her faith and trust in the person of Jesus Christ and fact that He died on the cross as payment for sins and rose again on the third day to obtain victory over death and to give eternal life to all who believe in Him. John 1:12 tells us: “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.”
The Roman Catholic Church teaches that salvation is by baptismal regeneration and is maintained through the Catholic sacraments unless a willful act of sin is committed that breaks the state of sanctifying grace.

Not to be disrespectful of any other faith, but it is all due to ignorance. People are ignorant of the Catholic teachings. The only Catholic education most Protestants get is from other Protestants who are biased against the Catholic faith.
God bless,

ok first lets go over some thing you said..
"Clue people to be Christian is to believe in Jesus Christ-Catholics do that thus making us Christian as well. "
Being a christian isnt just about believing in CHRIST. its making him your role model, ITs reading his word and applying it to your life daily.
I think the reason many other christian branch's have a problem with catholics is this..
in the Catholic religion its ok to pray to dead people.
They pray to saints, and to mary and so on. having been in this life before heres what i noticed.
I asked my priest why its ok to pray to dead people when in the bible saul was condemed for doing the same thing?
When the bible makes it clear there is one mediator "CHRIST" and no other, why we pray to other people? shouldnt our prayers be only to the one Who can change our lives?
then i asked a third question,
Sure the bible says living people can pray for us, but where does it say the dead pray for us?
he never answered one. so i got to looking more, and its clear prayer to the dead is wrong. PRayer to any one other then Christ, is a waisted prayer because no one else can help your life.
Thats what the problem is.. it boils down to a good church got in touch with some bad teaching..

I know that makes me mad sometimes too. What all the protestant churches seem to forget that Jesus established a Church, and placed it into Peter's hands and that Church is the Catholic Church, the first Christians were the Jewish Apostles. I also dont like when they talk blasphemy against the Catholic Church, to me they are blaspheming Jesus Christ. They also fail to realize that without the Catholic Church there would be no New Testament.

This is an interesting question. It is actually more of an organizational one, than that of a theological question. Any organization will close ranks once it forms. I heard the same things about being superior to other groups in my study of psychology that I did in my Catholic education.

Us catholics are christians because we accept Jesus into our hearts, why can't the others believe that? If we weren't christians we wouldn't speak of Jesus like say jehovah's witnesses.
