it sounds like you had the radio put in or put it in yourself. and forgot to hook up the blue wire behind the radio to the power antenna wire in the car (which should also be blue if there is an adaptor harnerss). some cars have a powered antenna like a booster they wont let the signal pass unless they have power

I would check the antenna connection first. Normally Sony radios are really good with FM reception. I would be surprised if it is a problem in the radio. If it is the radio, you can get a FM booster for around $15-$20. I would recommend a booster that you can turn on and off. Some come with a on/off button, but if it dosen't you can put a toggle switch on the power wire. The only drawback is that sometimes they work too well. They will try to pick up stations far away and cause more problems than you had to begin with.

i had a similar problem in my car.
if you pull your radio out of the car you will see the aerial plugged in the back of it. if you make sure that it is pushed all the way into the socket so you have a good connection. secondly make sure there is no kinks in the cable because this can interfere with your reception also. if this doesn't work unscrew your aerial from the base and give it a good spray preferably with some electrical contact cleaner if not some WD40. this will clean up the contacts and remove any corrosion that may be stopping a good signal

The antenna is in a stronger open place to acquire incoming indicators while the homestead possibly has hearth resistant partitions (isolation that forestalls hearth from spreading by the wall) that block indicators which contain cellular telephones radio and instant internet (that's why its slower than under pressure out alongside with different people utilising it despite if that is not shelter) and the steel vehicle physique could help besides.

I assume your antenna is good. You could take it to either a radio repair shop or an auto audio store and have them check the Standing wave ratio on the antenna. good luck

hi on some radios there is a small hole on the back you need a long screwdriver thin and inside there could be a fine tuning screw to adjust the antenna trim hope this helps

Have to agree with fordman ..sounds like poor connection from your AERIAL, most radio systems can be released from its housing by 2 double pronged keys available from halfords(uk) check aerial is "pushed home".
