They both make good vehicles, and some not so good ones. In my family there are 2 mustangs, an escort, a ranger, an S10, a lumina, and a cavalier.
The chevrolets seem to be slightly better mechanically, but the fords have better bodies & interoir.

Well it depends on years. Right now, 2005-2008 the Ford car is better then the Chevy in our eyes. The Ford light trucks have been a leader for many years and continue to do so. Yes some have issues with this or that breaking. I have yet to have one towed into a shop that had a frame bent, behind the cab, when over loaded. Chevys have bent the most out of Dodge, Nissan and Toyota. Ford is the industry leader for that reason. They all break for time to time Ford and Chevy are the cheepest to fix when they do and. As well as they both cost less to fix in a collision then the others.

You posted this in the Ford section so of course your answers are going to be biased towards Ford, but when the nuts and bolts are all tight, it all means nothing other than your own experiences with each make.
My preferences lean to Ford. I have had several different models of each make, and I have tended to not have as many problems when I am driving a Ford.
Also, when I am looking at the other vehicles on the road...
I tend to see more older Fords still on the road.
I have a 1986 F350 w/6.9 diesel daily driver and it is always ready to go to work!
How many 21 year old heavy chevies can say that?

In my past 27 years of driving and owning many Fords and Chevys.... Ford has proven to be a more reliable all around better made vehicle. I use to be a die hard Chevy guy, but all the problems I had made me change.... and especially after owning a few Fords that never died and never had any problems. This is my experience. Now im a Ford and Dodge guy. :)

Why do people keep asking these questions??? It is basically a matter of opinion! I like Chevys and have had very good experiences with them but then I know others who have not had quite the same experiences. I like Fords just fine and know people who have had great experiences with them and then others who have not had such great experinces. They are both good American cars (though the late 80's and early 90's produced some pathetic cars on both accounts). With questions like this you gonna get nothing but opinion. And the Chevy Ford battle is probably gonna go to the end of the world......

Since you are asking in the Ford forum, I would have to think you want a Ford answer. Good move.
They are both fine trucks and automobiles.
I prefer Ford's, someone else Chevy. At least it is American, and the profits stay in this country.
Good luck.

I have had good luck with fords and good luck with chevys. I don't know which I think is better. My Chevy Town and Country runs GREAT, but my Ford Contour ran great too (before my sister crashed it). I will choose chevy though because my Grandpa worked for GM.

I'd say they are about even.
It's not like one Vehicle manufacturer has some secret technology that the other one doesn't have. You can't win that type of argument, because it's all a matter of opinion.
That's why this argument hasn't been settled in a very long time, and it never will. Both GM and Ford know that, and they use that to sell more trucks. It's like opening McDonald's next to a Wendy's. It's intentional, because competition produces higher profits.

Personally I like Ford, but if you take care of your vehicles they should last you quite some time. PM your vehicles with a reputable garage or dealer. I have the oil changed in mine about every 4500 miles. 3000 is really not necessary and a waste of oil. This info I got directly from a dealer.
The little cars may be good on gas, but very hard on the engine in high speed cities and highways. They also don't have the pickup that the midsized cars have when it comes to getting out on the highway with oncoming vehicles.
Just my opinion.
Drive Safe...
