It's mainly up to the breeder and the owner.
If you buy a dog from a "cheap" breeder (backyard breeder, etc.), the dog's temperament will not be that good. Temperament is inherited, and these breeders are not concerned about making the best dogs, they're concerned about making a quick buck. Good breeders will look at the parents of each dog they want to breed for health problems, temperament, etc. and breed accordingly to maintain the breed standard and to have the best dogs possible. They will socialize the dogs early on.
If the owner doesn't discipline the dog properly, and does not continue to socialize it, the dog will have problems. Beating dogs, etc. are not good ways of discipline and often result in a skittish or aggressive dog.
However, chihuahua's have a tendency to be difficult to potty train. That will take a lot of work on your part and there's not much anyone can do about it, haha. Good luck!

They are all differant! But I can say they are tend to bond tighter to one family member than the others. I would not take a Million dollars for my Baby! She is only a 1/2 breed Minwa - 1/2 Chihuaua and I/2 Min pin.

Just like with a pit bull, it is all in the breeding and how they are raised. We have been raising chihuahuas for 9 yrs and ours are some of the best tempered chis you will find anywhere. They are not the "ankle biters" that so many people think they are. Strangers can come in our house and within minutes are dogs are in their laps, making friends. Visit with the breeder, check out the other dogs they have and see what they are like. The key is finding a great greeder, one who raises the pups in the house, not outside or in a kennel. Good luck.

they are not all bad as they are made out to be.. if you haven't had one before they are different then most dogs. they are VERY scared of children and VERY protective. They don't like people coming up on them that they don't know. I would read online more about them. I have one right now and he is an angel. He is the opposite of what most people think about them. I would consider getting a chi/mix so the dog might be a bit calmer. good luck! also you can find tons of them at petfinder.com.. that's where i found mine and he has absolutely no problems. don't forget to check out the classified ads for your state on petfinder

okay I have two chihuahuas and they are the sweetest things ever they are good with kids and they actually like kids and they are very well behaved and they have been so since i brought them home . I have and do foster chihuahuas from time to time . they are the same way . Not one of mine has ever snapped if they did they would get a sharp one with a newspaper . You have to make them behave .just beware of any breeder selling teacups or pocket pups they are unscrupulous and are byb (backyard breeders). good luck .

I always laughed when my husband would come home and tell about the vicious little ankle biters he and the other officers would encounter on a house call. I used to work for a pharmacy and deliver to people. Their little chihuahuas were always running, barking, and two would act as if they would bite. I have seen a few that aren't that way. My friend's vet said not to let the dog sit with you or members of your family a lot because they become very territorial. This what causes some of them to become nasty to be around. My friend's sister's chihuahua is so sweet, and she hasn't let it sit on her lap a lot when she is sitting down.

Yeah I've heard about this too. But I don't think the breed really do. My friend has 3 pomeranians and 1 cihuahua. Her pomeranians are bigger than the cihuahua but more aggresive and bad behave than the cihuahua. Just go to the pet store and hug one by one. If they don't like to be hugged or pet, just don't choose him/her. Good luck on addopting a new pet. :)

Chis are bold. Every breed of dog has characteristics that some people can live with, and some people can't. And any owner who doesn't have patience and doesn't take the time to learn a little bit about positive training can ruin a dog and teach that dog that humans are scary and unpredictable.
Choose to train with kindness and positive, reward-based methods and you will be far, far less frustrated about working with your dog.

Of course, the most respected breeder of Chihuahuas in the United States is Linda George, who lives in Wisconsin and uses the kennel prefix of QUACHITAH . She has attended and taken breed as Westminster nearly every year for at least 10 years and is thoroughly devoted to quality dogs. I cannot find her exact address or contact right now, but have found another breeder whose website suggest that she has worked with Linda. Either party should be helpful getting you a respectable, well bred pet.

in case you love or fee that person, then definite, confirm you do ask for forgiveness, in case you have behaved incredibly badly, ask for forgiveness in a huge way, e.g dinner, contemporary or perhaps write a letter from the middle. you do no longer opt to lose a relationship or a friendship over a faux effect.
