They have a misconception (created by anti-Catholic propaganda) that it implies that she preceded God, when that isn't the case at all. God took His flesh from Mary, was conceived in her, was born by her, gave suck to her, was raised by her, and she watched as a mourning mother on His day of crucifixion. If this doesn't make her the Mother of God, I don't know what will (and obviously, she only supplied His physical body, not His divinity).

Nor do they realize the implications of their denial. If Mary was the mother of Jesus, but she wasn't the mother of God, then we have a problem. Jesus wasn't God. If they say she was the mother of Christ, but not the mother of God, then we say the Christ is not God or God possessed the man Jesus somehow.

In truth, this amounts to a denial of the Incarnation, and by it, a denial of the Trinity. It's sad to see so many people saying something that undermines everything they believe. What a person believes about Mary determines what they believe about the Incarnation and Jesus' humanity (notice how the churches that deny this also don't seem to pay much heed to the idea of God in the flesh even if they give it lip service...). Their doctrine is, frankly, heresy just like the doctrines of groups like the Jehovah's Witnesses or Mormons.

While the Trinity is accepted among most Christian faiths, we do separate God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit.

To say that Mary is the mother of God is stretching things too far; this is not listed in the Bible as being so, what Catholics have done is stretched assumption upon assumption to make the assumption that she is the "mother of God".

She is the mother of Jesus, but she is dead, gone to Heaven (we assume) and not around anymore. She is no more venerated by us than is Moses or Abraham or any other Biblical character.

mom of God isn't a term ever used in scripture. additionally, God is triune, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. So, i do no longer think of it is optimal to communicate over with Mary as God's mom. She is the mummy of Jesus, she did no longer begat God. God created her, and existed in the previous her. Mary has no larger status than a Human that has long gone directly to be with the Lord. The call is synthetic and could seem to intend a particular seat via God's throne.

Because Protestants properly understand that there are more than one 'office' held by Jesus. And that Mary was a sinner, and that she had other children probably by Joseph after Jesus was born. It's in the Bible.

Jesus was both the Son of God, and the son of man. He was human, and yet at the same time not human.

Where was Mary when Jesus was in heaven? Jesus told the Pharisees, "Before Abraham was, I am" Meaning he was around before Abraham.
Jesus was in heaven, alive before Mary was a gleam in her fathers eye.
Mary was the mother of the human Jesus, not the spiritual Jesus.
This is man's tradition and is not taught in the bible. NOR did Mary remain a virgin "Joseph did not KNOW her (sex) Until Jesus was born" Bible names 4 brothers and said sister(s).

Nor was Mary sinless-bible says God is her savior, she says this while talking to John's mom, her cousin. What did she need saving from? Sin.

Nor was Mary taken up to heaven without dieing. Not in bible. Mary was only mentioned once in the bible after Jesus' ascension. If she was to be prayed to, or held as "co -savior" then the bible would have mentioned it. "there is one mediator between God and man, Jesus the Christ" NOT Mary. This goes against scripture!

All Roman Catholic teachings that follow the traditions of man over the holy bible. This was why there was a breaking away from your church, sad eh?

They don't deny that she's the mother of Jesus, but don't venerate Her with the title "Mother of God" in the same way that we Catholics do. They probably feel that God existed from before creation (in other words, was pre-existent), and therefore has no earthly mother in the same sense that Jesus did when He came to earth. To them, Jesus was an earthly incarnation, but God always existed. In that case, they view Jesus as the only-begotten son of God, with Mary as His earthly mother (but not God's mother, nor the Holy Spirit's). However, there are many different Protestant groups, and not all of them believe the same things.

Another trinity question...how many of these are there. Mary is not the mother of God, she is the mother of God's Son, Jesus Christ. yes they are one but Mary did not give birth to God and Jesus existed in heaven even before Mary, so let me use the same analogy I always do for the trinity.

The trinity is like the US government. Both are made up of 3 parts. (the father, son, and holy spirit & the president, congress, and court system)

Can we honestly say that whoever gave birth to George Bush is the mother of the government?

Protestants accept Mary as mother of Jesus.

But give her no more respect than other Godly people mentioned in the Bible.

She is not an intermediary between God and man because she was only a mortal person and we are told not to pray for the dead, or to the dead. Once a person has died their relation to God is established as either Saved or Lost for all eternity.

we know mary cannot be the mother of God...it makes no sense whatsoever-God created mary...and Christ said, 'before abraham was, I am'...john's gospel begins with 'in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God'...how difficult is that to understand? mary was the mother of the flesh and blood Jesus...not the Mother of God...

Mary is the Mother of Jesus Humanity, not His Diety. Jesus is 100% Diety and 100% Human.

Jesus Diety comes from being conceived of the Holy Spirit.
