Where you get the idea that hearts have no evolutionary value.?Sure heart's [ in emotional sense of the word ]are products of evolution. It is evolutionarily more advantageous to the survival of our species to form emotional bonds with each other.
Unlike other species people require a long amount of time to reach adulthood and that requires families that will stay together long enough to raise them to maturity.
Dogs are another example of a species evolving and surviving because they won our hearts. For a dog having a "heart" has survival value
At the turn of the last century there was a Russian geneticist-whose name I forgot- that had the job of trying to make farm raised foxes less agressive and therefore less prone to damaging potential fur coats.
What he did was that he bred tame foxes to other tame foxes and did not allow agressive foxes to breed.
This produced two major results;
It created a variety of perpetually adolescent friendly foxes who if living in or near a human community would survive better
And something that was a complete surprise:
The tame foxes looked a lot different . The passive gene had physiological consequences also.
This is important because it blew the " Evolution never leaps theory "out of the water. So those that demand that evolution be proved by a showing a series of small ,incremental, linear progressions are asking for something that does not always exist in Nature. Therefore proof cannot be shown by using that model.

There are a million different answers to this question. I am not an atheist. However, I tend to have an atheist veiw of the world.

Prove to me you are not a brain in a vat somewhere, whose sensory input is being controlled by electrodes wired to a computer belonging to an alien. Prove that you aren't, and I can prove anything; because the proof of which I ask does not exist. It is impossible to know as all we are aware of is sensory input and our own thoughts.

If you believe that, as any sensible person would, it is only a little step to thinking that if sensory input could be an illusion, then so perhaps could our emotions. Perhaps these emotions are actually being controlled by chemicals. Which I happen to believe they are. As scientists have pointed out, and only a fool would deny, chemicals have a profound affect on the human mind.

Drunk people are often extremely happy, or extremely depressed. Stoned people are normally very happy, or possibly extremely paranoid. People with depression take drugs to help them feel happier. The kind of drugs we use today are fairly imprecise, undelicate, undifferentiated and unspecific. Given a high enough degree of control over these drugs it would be possible to make a person feel anything, even the love you describe as being impossible to exist without God.

The feeling you describe is known as... this is really annoying me I can't remember the correct word. But its why people sometimes blame the profoundness of emotion as the reason we must have a soul/mind/God

This is all built into the human DNA, and not supreme being related. Since I've been here, I've been condemned. Called an abomination. Watched several people relish the thought of a large number of people learning their lessons in the fiery pits of hell for all eternity.

Oh, I'm capable of answering you. Are you capable of using your heart?

For those who ask to only speak to the Christians, and have a ligitimate concern that only a fellow Christian can answer. I pass right over their question with all due respect. I do not consider myself athiest but realize that for those who are not of any religion, athiest becomes an umbrella here. I doubt most even understand the difference between Pagan (another blanket term) and athiest.

For all that there are so many here, unlike me in any way. It is with fascination and wonder at the worlds that are shown here. Your bible says to be as children.

Practice that and maybe you'll have your answer.

Once again it is "i" before "e" except after "ath"

A heart is a muscle that has evolved to circulate blood. It being the "seat of emotion" is a primitive superstitious idea...much like everything else Christians believe.

Your question is nonsensical. Saying there is no god has nothing to do with hearts. I can show you a heart. What does the Big Bang have to do with the evolution of the circulatory system? Once again, Christians don't seem to know the first thing about science, evolution or cosmology but feel confident in spouting blather.

Please ask an intelligent question next time, if capable.

Emotions are a result of brain functions and reactions to external stimuli. Modern science can prove the release of certain hormones that produce emotions. It is a product of evolution as it directly relates to higher brain functions. It doesnt take an atheist to figure that out...but I am sure they are pleased that you asked such a thought provoking question....gee I wonder what they will do with the 23 hours 59 minutes and 30 seconds of thier day.

I am an atheist, and I find your question ignorant and troubling.

Your question is ignorant because it is well known that the heart, just like the brain and all parts of your body comes from biological development when you were in the womb of your biological mother (or testube). The biological process of organ development does not provide evidence for any god's existence. That is a cold hard fact.

Saying that there is no evidence to support the existence of a god is not like saying there is no heart. It is more like saying there is no evidence to support the existence of the tooth fairy.

Well, many people say that emotions are a product of evolution. Emotions are affected by biochemical and physiological changes in the brain. They have a physical basis.

This question really is about whether you believe that there is a non-material (i.e. supernatural, spiritual) side to human existence. It is not about the existence of God. Even if I accepted that emotions proved that there is a spiritual side to human life, this would in no way oblige me to accept the doctrines of any particular religion.

Your heart IS a product of evolution because its what pumps the blood through your body. As for emotions... they are caused by chemical reactions within your body. Just because you feel the emotion in your chest doesn't mean thats where the emotion is coming from.

Many emotions are learned. Just look at the difference in todays society and of the society of the 40's. People are much more emotionally sensitive today than then because we have adopted a victim's mentality. It has been learned by the younger generations.
I'm sure this wont satisfy your question, but it is something that you should consider when pondering these things.
