Do you have to have a Visa also when traveling to UK with one way ticket?
This is all so hard for me! I have never travel outside US before and I went to Post office got my passport application, now I hear you cant fly one way because there is no proof that I will leave country within 90 days. I bought one way because my friend there will be buying my return ticket later. It was due to limited income. I am going there to help with his health problems. Please help me to understand! Thank you!

u dont need a visa No, but you should be worried about issues with immigration control, which occurs before you pick up checked bags and go through customs. The immigration officer will be concerned with several things:
* you are genuinely seeking entry as a visitor for up to six months
* you intend to leave the UK at the end of your visit
* you do not intend to take employment in the UK
* you have enough money to support and accommodate yourself without recourse to public funds or taking employment
* you can meet the cost of a return or onward journey.
Having a return or onward ticket in hand satisfies the last one and is good evidence for the first two. I'd imagine it's on the unusual side for a visitor not to have one, so you need to look into bringing some proof that you can support yourself such as bank statements.

Normally you would not need a visa, but you would need to satisfy Immigration in the UK that you really intended to return. You would also need to show that you had sufficient funds for your proposed visit. If you failed to satisfy Immigration on these points you would be required to go straight back. You could apply for a visa before travelling at a UK consulate in the States, where you could clarify everything - you could for example show proff of your friend's willingness to pay for your return flight.

Actually, it would be much easier if your friend simply bought your return ticket now and sent it on to you.

A UK Immigration officer will probably reply later, take his advice, and don't leave it to chance!

As an American citizen you do not need a visa to travel to the UK for a visit of up to 180 days, however you CAN apply for one if you wish to (all but) guarantee entry. As a prospective visitor you will need to satisfy the arrivals officer that you qualify for entry as a genuine visitor - one who intends to stay for no longer than the period as stated by her, who can afford to support, maintain and accommodate herself without recourse to public funds and who does not intend to undertake work of any kind - be it paid or unpaid.

As an ex-arrivals IO I would have the following immediate concerns: A new passport and an single ticket. If this led me to discover apparently limited funds, and your coming to visit a sponsor with health issues who you had not previously met (if I understand your previous questions correctly) then my concerns might be heightened. Your previous questions indicate a possible interest in staying in Antrim long term. If this is your true intention and if you get stopped by one of my colleagues then you can expect your credibility to be stripped away very quickly.

So...well I've answered your question but opened up a load more perhaps.

You can enter the UK from the US without a Visa on a one way ticket as long as you can show you have sufficient funds for your stay (about £1,500 per month of stay) and enough money to purchase a return ticket.

i dont think that you will have a problem because you are from the US, i know that newer passports for UK people going to US dont need a visa, so i'm pretty sure that you dont need one. but i would check with a travel agent who could advise you much better even if your not buying a ticket from them!

you shouldn't be allowed in to the UK without a return ticket just as we arnt going to the USA, also you should have to provide an address for your first nights stay as we have to and you should only be allowed to stay for 90 days instead of the 6 months we allow you, as you impose on us, finally you should have your fingerprints taken and a mug shot. as we have to get before entering your country, also perhaps we should call you aliens as you call us, its time we did as you do to us and not have this one sided agreement that clearly works in your favour

yes thumbs down but believe me things are changing Americans and soon all the agreements wont be in your favour. and not before time people are pissed off with you lot throwing your weight around, your days are numbered

No visa needed, and I do not think you will be bothered with immigration, coming from the US. You should just walk through unhindered.

They don't want you to stay. Just visit and spend your money. You have to have a Visa!
