There may consequences imposed on me by society but still I'm not obligated to society. I'm responsible to myself only. Society can tell me I'm obligated but society cannot force me to comply. Society can only constrain me not control me. Therefore true power and control remains in myself.

There is also the feeling in many people which produces empathy towards others and causes them to avoid harming people in any way. This is what separates our civilized peoples from savages who would wreck havoc on anyone and everyone. By savages, I mean psychopathic people without empathy or remorse for their actions.
I believe that as our society grew, the empathetic people, aware of the psychopaths came up with forms of magic and the theory of a supreme being to control the psychopaths into behaving. Depending on the intelligence of the psychopath, it usually works.
Also, the laws of the land can be pretty effective in containing any psychopaths once caught.
No method is 100% foolproof but at least there are some resources in place to protect the real empathetic and moral people.

But society can indeed control you. Try 25 to life and see if you aren't controlled every hour of the day.

The idea that people who don't believe in God have no moral compass or don't believe simply so that they can do whatever they want is absurd.

People need to live together. They therefore learned very quickly that what benefits the community benefits all. Sadly I think some religions move people away from that concept and into a state of consciousness that compels them to merely 'save' themselves while ostracizing all who may be different or do not agree with them.

Yes You can do what ever you want. but if you do not have any personal conflict.Rules of scoiety are for general public. Some people are above those rules some are below that.

Do what ever you want religions teache too.
" God help them who help themselves"
or in Sanskrit
"Karmanaye vadhikaraste ma faleshu kadachana"
Do the work don't think for the consiquences.
I feel we get pleasure just by doing the work so why shall we try to get another pleasure?

but being injust & cruel if you have concious you will not do.

God is a man made thing. all religions are 6-7000 thousend years old but civilization is lot older than that.

God is a scientific requirment of Human being. When we do not have control on things we depend on God that he will do the right thing or thing which is our requirment.

I remember my younger brother was on death bed I was 12 years old I was "Reading Hanuman Challeesa" ( A hindu religious book of 40 couplets) 2-3-4-8- 10 times. Now I feel that reading Hanuman Chaleesa saved my heart attack or saved mental immabalance.

Religions are made for proper functioning of the scoiety. They are mostly "Morality" but is everybody goes according to morality? Or is morality absolute ? No it differes from place to place. person to person?

According to HInduism ( Just now not in olden days )& Christianity just Monogamy but according to Islam & a sect of Christianity polygamy is write.

For lies too religions say speak lies to save somebody's life. Means IT IS YOU WHO HAS TO DECIDE RIGHT OR WRONG & DO IT God & religions have given freedom to choose.

God does not take any responsibility of your any act.
When somebody dies we think I would have done this ,done that & we are distress. But the moment we think this is what God wanted our distress is reduced.

In Sanskrit there is a saying " Aham Brahm asmee Dweteeyo na asti" means I am the God not other. The moment you will think this you will have the responsibility & you will act according to Religion.

Sorry I have knowledge of all religion but I am Hindu. So I am able to quote More in my religion but the basis of every religions are the same.

You bring up a very good point. If there is no God, then you are not held accountable for your actions. There is no moral rights or wrongs, and no eternal reward or punishment. You have only yourself to answer to, and it doesn't matter what you do in life because we will all just decompose into the ground anyways. You have nothing to live for. You are just another organism polluting the planet. That doesn't sound too great, does it? If I believed the above sentences, I would want to commit suicide! But I do believe in a God, a loving, personal God who cares about what happens here on earth. He cares about each and every individual, and if you commit your life to Him, you have a blissful eternity in a world without pain and suffering to look forward to. Doesn't that sound like a much better outcome?

I used to think that. The harder I fought, the more I lost. Since I really don't want to live in a log cabin in the woods some where, I adjusted my behavior and way of thinking to become a more productive member of society. I still get pissed though! There's a lot of guys in jail who don't feel obligated to society either. Only to that big sexually frustrated guy in the same cell.

not really..i don't believe in God.i'm a Buddhist.but no matter what,if u do harm to others u will suffer the consequences.these restraints from society are superficial ones.but what goes around, definitely comes around

e.g.u may steal and never get caught but that doesn't mean that u will be free from the consequences forever..you're past will somehow catch up with u and u will suffer in proportion to the sin you committed.THAT'S called justice.

u may think that justice doesn't always happen and there are so many evil people out there doing great but something does always happen.there was one murderer in my city who never got caught.but when he was around 60 or so he went insane and went about the city without his clothes ==STARK naked! the police caught him and found out that he was a criminal.they put him to hospital and he died a month later as a raving lunatic.

****(btw, this thing about "what goes around, comes around" applies to the good things one does as well :) )****

God can tell me I'm obligated but god cannot force me to comply. God can only constrain me not control me.

Exactly what are you trying to say ?
Obviously if you do illegal things you can get punished ( prison ) for that with or without god.

Thats the problem with secular humanism, If God does not exist, then what is right and what is wrong?
If it is a matter of opinion, who?
If it is decided by society how?
Take both questions all the way back to the begining of recorded human history and answer.
people I have heard said that you cannot legislate morality...well...answer this, is murder against the law, well you will say of course it is, well then sounds like you just legislated morality, the olny diffeence is who's morality will you legislate

Very true..however..you must keep in mind one thing. If there is no God, and society doesn't dictate to you, meaning you can do as you wish...what is to stop others from doing the same? We need some kind of order to stave off complete anarchy..unless you think anarchy is good.in which case.."do as thou wilt" Neitchie might be up your alley. :) Nice theory.

Yes, Icy you can do whatever you want. For some people a sense of responsibility comes with this understanding, for others, not so much.

Without a God, we only have our humanity to guide us toward ethical behavior.
